Tori Amos: Live for Austin’s HGSR 93.3

This past weekend I had the extreme pleasure to see my favorite musician, the incredible Tori Amos (whose music runs right through my veins) perform live twice! I went to both of her shows held at downtown Los Angeles’ historical Orpheum Theatre (which first opened back in 1926), each night had a different but just as amazing setlist, on Sunday night she performed On The Boundary (from Y Kant Tori Read) for the first time ever, it was such a treat! Tori has been out touring since September, promoting her latest album Night Of Hunters, and tomorrow night marks the very last show of the tour in Dallas! But she took time out of her busy schedule to perform four songs for Austin radio station HGSR 93.3, watch the video below, many thanks to Undented (the best online resource for all things Tori) for the heads up!

Watch: Tori Amos performs on Tavis Smiley

My darling Tori Amos performed on Tavis Smiley‘s PBS show last week, and here’s the video. First up is Tori’s classic track Silent All These Years (off her 1992 groundbreaking solo debut Little Earthquakes) and then Carry from her classically-inspired new album Night Of Hunters (which released last week).

More on ‘Night Of Hunters’ from Tori Amos …

This coming Tuesday (September 20th) Tori Amos drops her classically influenced new album Night Of Hunters (listen to it now in its entirety on NPR), which she likes to refer to as a 21st century song cycle. To be 100% honest, I wasn’t all that crazy about the album when I first listened to it, but now I can’t seem to stop playing it, it’s a sonic masterpiece that requires multiple listenings to fully grasp. I cannot wait to see Tori play some of the new tracks live (with a string quartet in tow) when she swings by Los Angeles in December (I’ll be at both shows). Below is a recently released digital EPK, I absolutely love hearing Tori discuss the album’s lofty concept, it definitely adds a new layer of understanding and appreciation.

According to Amos, the concept centers on a woman who is left alone on the eve of her relationship’s demise in an old Georgian house near the River Bandon, located on the outskirts of Kinsale, County Cork in Ireland. As dusk turns to night, the woman is confronted by Annabelle, a shapeshifting “childlike creature” who “emerges from nature”, played by Amos’ daughter. The mythical creature, representing “duality”, as well as the ancient forces of “the hunter” and “the hunted”, coaxes the woman to follow her into the night, transporting them both approximately three-thousand years into the past to witness a previous incarnation of the woman’s relationship. It was a time of great chaos and violence in ancient Ireland as a war of beliefs raged on, and the woman and her lover fought side-by-side as bards, using the ancient tree alphabet as their only weapon. Once the war was lost, however, the woman and her lover crossed the Atlantic on his sailboat, abandoning her world, the New World, in favor of his world, the Old World. It was during this time that forces, both within and outside of their control, drew the couple apart. After their sojourn into the past, Annabelle inducts the woman in an ancient peyote ritual which is meant to further expand her consciousness through both hallucinogenic and meditative means. During the ritual, Annabelle helps the woman realize how she abandoned her own fire and inner-strength when she left her world in favor of her lover’s. The woman also sees how both she and her former lover interchangeably misused the ancient forces of “the hunter” and “the hunted” against one another throughout the course of their union. This self-destructive dynamic, in turn, also plagued the present-day incarnation of their relationship. Once the ritual and woman’s self-examination are complete, Annabelle reminds her of the perils and benefits found in using and misusing the ancient energies of “the hunter” and “the hunted”. The creature also advises the woman that there are “forces” at work that must be dealt with and that she must leave her so that she alone may face the Fire Muse, played by Amos’ niece. In meeting the mythical goddess, the woman is allowed to recapture the fire and inner-strength she had abandoned, both in her past and present incarnations, and is taught about the “light” and “dark” forces of the world at large. The Fire Muse reminds the woman that more than just her own mortal pains and desires are of concern and, together, as the fiery goddess calls upon the woman to see the world from a higher perspective, they weave a spell to protect the light of the world from the forces of darkness. The woman ends her journey at dawn, renewed and grateful for her place in the world and for all of the people that have inhabited her life, including her former lover. SOURCE

Watch: Tori Amos’ ‘Nautical Twilight’

Here’s the latest music video from my darling Tori Amos for Nautical Twilight off her upcoming release Night Of Hunters (out September 20th). I’m still spending lots of time listening to the new album, it’s very well done but it’s definitely thick and dense and requires a good set of headphones to fully appreciate all the many musical layers and intricacies. I think Toriphiles will be quite pleased with her latest outing, but it’s certainly not going to help grow her extremely diehard fanbase. If anyone out there thinks they’d like to give Tori a try, I would suggest starting off with her incredible solo debut album Little Earthquakes (1992) and make your way through her incredibly diverse catalogue that now spans almost twenty years!

Tori Amos talks ‘Night Of Hunters’

We’re now just a few weeks away from the highly-anticipated release of Tori Amos‘ brand new album Night Of Hunters, out on September 20th via world famous classical label Deutsche Grammophon! Catch Tori below talking about the album’s classically-inspired concept in a recently released digital EPK. Thankfully I had the chance to preview the entire album, Toriphiles (like myself) are definitely going to enjoy the album, it’s sweepingly lush and epic, with completely gorgeous orchestrations and top-notch production, without a doubt it could be considered yet another musical masterpiece from Tori Amos.

Night of Hunters is a 21st century song cycle that finds Tori Amos drawing on themes from Satie, Granados, Chopin and other great composers. It tells a modern love story that is only unraveled after a journey to Ireland’s mythic past. Guests include such esteemed players as The Apollon Musagete Quartet and the Berlin Philharmonic clarinet soloist Andreas Ottensamer.

First Look: Tori Amos’ ‘Carry’ music video!

OMG, I was just about to go to bed, but then I discovered my darling Tori Amos unexpectedly dropped her brand new music video for Carry, which I’m assuming is the first official single off her highly-anticipated upcoming album Night Of Hunters. If you go to Tori’s Facebook page and share the video, you can unlock another new song called Shattering Sea, which is excellent! I love the simplicity of the video, she looks and sounds gorgeous. There’s seriously no one that tops her for me, she really is my favorite, I have super high expectations for her new release, I really feel like it will be one of Tori’s best.

Preview two songs from Tori Amos’ ‘Night Of Hunters’!

Oh happy day! We Finally have a small taste of what to expect from Tori Amos‘ upcoming 12th studio album Night Of Hunters, due out next month (September 20th), via the world’s most celebrated classical label, Deutsche Grammophon. Listen to the just released tracks Nautical Twilight and Carry below, both songs are indicative of the classical direction Tori decided to go with this time around (read more about what she has to say about the album in a recent interview with OUT magazine here), I actually love the whole sweeping orchestra sound along with the prominent piano work (without a doubt Tori’s best musical weapon), I’m quite curious to hear the album in its entirety. Plus I’m really looking forward to seeing Tori live in concert when she swings by Los Angeles in December (with a fancy string quartet in tow), I secured myself tickets for both nights, there’s nothing quite like seeing Tori conjuring up her very own special brand of musical magic in person.
