Lady Gaga and Katy Perry: Banned in China!

Because the government of China is shithouse rat insane (the citizens are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet though, absolutely lovely) the Ministry of Culture has decided to ban songs by Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Backstreet Boys from the country, and have instilled a policy where all songs need to be translated first and submitted to the ministry before they can be allowed into the country. Seriously? Seriously! CBC reports:

Officially, imported albums and songs are to be translated and then submitted to the Chinese government for approval before distribution online. According to China’s Global Times, a 2009 directive sought out to ban songs deemed to have “poor taste and vulgar content,” as well as those violating copyrights. The ministry said 100 songs have not been submitted for approval. Included on the list of offending music are Lady Gaga’s The Edge of Glory (among her six appearances on the blacklist), Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night, Beyoncé’s Run the World (Girls) as well as older chart-toppers, like the 1999 Backstreet Boys hit I Want It That Way.

Here’s the thing: Some of these songs I really don’t want to hear. If they never appeared on the radio again, I wouldn’t really mind. That being said, that’s not my call. My personal beliefs and thoughts and opinions are exactly that: personal. People are smart enough to decide for themselves what is and isn’t right for them, so honestly, censorship is at best, a really needless waste of tax dollars for an ineffectual system since there’s the Internet and you can pretty much find anything and everything for free on there.

VMA 2011: Lady Gaga’s incredible promo clips!

I was kind of down on MTV‘s upcoming 2011 Video Music Awards (taking place in Los Angeles on August 28th) because of their lame ‘tribute’ to Britney Spears, don’t get me wrong I love Brit but I felt like the network was desperately trying to manufacture some buzz (for a network that rarely seems to deal with music this days being wrapped up with Teen Mom and Jersey Shore instead), but now they have actual real buzz because Lady Gaga announced that she’ll be opening the show and nearly shut down NYC’s Times Square while doing it! Gaga’s surprise performance will probably be the only reason to tune into the show this year (besides Adele), thankfully it’s taking place at the beginning. You must watch the promos below, I love the first one which combines her tracks Government Hooker and Heavy Metal Lover, I seriously can’t wait to see what Gaga will do to have everyone talking this time around!

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga announced tonight that she is set to open the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards during “MTV First: Lady Gaga” to thousands of fans in Times Square as her Little Monsters revealed the news via a banner right in the center of New York City. She also introduced her new music video “Yoü and I” for its television premiere and responded to questions from fans on TV and online.

“I have a really big announcement,” the New York native told MTV’s Sway, the same night her “Yoü and I” video made its television debut. “But I thought as usual, instead of me announcing it, I’d let the Little Monsters do it for me.”

“It means the world to me,” Gaga said of opening the 2011 VMAs. “I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans.”

Lady Gaga – Yoü And I – the video!

Watch the brand new music video (leaked earlier this morning) from Lady Gaga for her latest single Yoü And I below! The video was directed by the Haus of Gaga and features Gaga as a mermaid and her alter ego Jo Calderone, overall it’s not bad but I feel like there’s way too many things packed into six minutes, the video could have been as simple as Gaga playing the piano, but of course she went a bit overboard, as per usual. It’s definitely one of the best songs off Born This Way, and I hope it makes it to the top of the charts. What do you guys think about the music video? Sound off in the comments section below!

Lady Gaga - Yoü and I

Will ‘Yoü and I’ be a hit for Lady Gaga?

Lady Gaga‘s new single Yoü and I (produced by Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange) happens to be my favourite track off her latest album, Born This Way. She recently tweeted the artwork for the single and thank whatever deity you choose, Buddha, Allah, Jebus, Flying Spaghetti Monster, or what-have-you that the cover is WAY better than the holly-hobby PhotoShop art for the album. Returning as her drag alter-ego, Jo Calderone, Gaga is looking quite good, maybe in need of some soap and water, but good! Last time we saw Gaga in drag was about a year ago in Vogue Hommes Japan, which stirred up more of those silly rumours that she actually has boy parts.

Jo’s looking kind of rough in this double cover release, like he’s about one wrong comment away from beating the living daylights out of the next moving thing in his line of sight. I wonder if we’re going to get some double Gaga action in the video for the single? I can totally imagine Jerry Springer taking on this topic … “I’m my own love interest”. Seems a bit masturbatory to me, but hey, she gave birth to automatic weapons in Born This Way‘s music video, so I guess it isn’t outside possibility for the pop icon. What do you think of Yoü and I being selected as the official fourth single? Will it be able to top the charts?

You will never find what you are looking for in love, if you don’t love yourself. #You&ISingleCover. @LadyGaga

Lady Gaga: Yoü And I / The View

In case you missed Lady Gaga‘s amazingly energetic performance of Yoü And I (the fourth kick-ass single off Born This Way) on The View this morning, watch it below. I was hoping she would pick this country-tinged song (produced by Shania Twain‘s ex-hubby Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange) for her next chart topper, I think this song can be seriously huge. It totally has massive universal appeal, plus lyrically it could prove to be a classic, performed in karaoke bars for years to come, I can’t wait to see the soon to be released music video. Now I’m curious what Gaga will pick for her next single? I’d like to suggest Hair (released only for promo), Heavy Metal Lover, Scheiße, or Electric Chapel! What track would you suggest?

MTV ‘s VMAs are a conspiracy against Lady Gaga?

Because the internet is apparently really really REALLY bored right now, the blogs are all a-twitter on their Myspacebook+ accounts (I understand how the series of tubes works) about how Lady Gaga was robbed in the MTV VMAs nominations because … ummm … something. I don’t know. It’s Katy Perry‘s fault I think.

Is it just a coincidence that Lady Gaga happened to dominate last year’s VMAs? She swept up eight moonmen, remember, including video of the year for Bad Romance. She even stole the show with her outrageous wardrobe, triggering a media frenzy when she appeared on stage in a dress made of meat. The current list of MTV VMAs looks like the TV network’s bosses cooked the kudos so they could have a new pop diva of the year (Katy Perry dominates the new race with nine nominations) while still getting Lady Gaga to attend by tossing her a bone with that one, chintzy nomination for best female video. Do you think that’s true? SOURCE

Ummm … no. All right, here’s the deal: I really do like all of Lady Gaga’s singles from the new album thus far, although after Pride, I need to a good month or so away from Born This Way. That being said, the accompanying videos have all been … lackluster. I’m sorry, but somewhere between the weird grossness of Born This Way, the Bayonetta rip-off of Judas and the one-noteness of The Edge of Glory, girl really needs to pick it up already.

Lady Gaga and Bette Midler are sister mermaids!

So now that the dust has settled and no one’s really sure who exactly the hell originally came up with the idea of dressing up in a mermaid costume and wheeling themselves around in a wheelchair, it seems like Lady Gaga and Bette Midler have buried the hatchet, and the two are now sister mermaids.

“I had no idea that she did that and I’m a huge Bette Midler fan,” Gaga told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush for The Billy Bush Show on Monday. When Billy asked Gaga if her routine was meant to be a tribute to Bette, the singer said it wasn’t originally, as she had no knowledge of the legend’s act, but she’s glad they have something in common. “Not in the beginning it wasn’t ‘cause I didn’t know that she’d done [it], but I do now and I think it’s great,” Gaga said. “Obviously I feel connected to women in theater and women from the past. SOURCE

What surprises me most is that, as a reader pointed out yesterday, the mermaid in a wheelchair bit was performed even before Bette or Gaga. Seriously, is this a thing now? How does someone even put mermaids and wheelchairs together? Did they watch The Little Mermaid and think “Yeah, under the sea, that’s great … I just think this would be better if Ariel was driving around in a mobility scooter.”

Bette Midler to Lady Gaga: Stop ripping me off, bitch!

Remember how Lady Gaga decided it would be a GREAT idea to dress up as a wheelchair-bound mermaid and she got egged for it? Well it turns out Bette Midler may have sort of done the exact same thing first, and she took to Twitter to call her out on it. WITH A CHORUS LINE. Seriously Gaga, if you’re gonna rip someone off, you might as well up the ante, right?

I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people — and many of them are still alive…..

Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it’s because it is!You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing it

Dear @ladygaga Ive been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980-You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits-mermaid’s mine

.@ladygaga, let’s drink this over at the Emmys in September. Fabulous mermaids can coexist! SOURCE

In case you’re wondering, we also have a video of Bette’s performance, just as my personal way of showing you all how a real bitch does it. I mean … kook at that! The chorus line! The impeccable vocals! The commitment to the humor! Personally, I just find that way more entertaining than someone stapling lobsters to their head.

Lady Gaga, the magical wheelchair-bound mermaid, got egged!

Because someone apparently managed to sacrifice a goat to Loki, the God of mischief, Lady Gaga ended up dressing up as a mermaid and riding around in a wheel chair until fans egged her because they thought the bit was offensive. I mean really, it’s hard enough for mermaids to get ahead in the job market without legs, but now she’s- Wait, mermaids aren’t real? You’re shittin’ me here.

Lady Gaga had eggs thrown at her as she left a Sydney club after a surprise appearance following a gig in the city, where she also apparently wheeled out her new mermaid alter ego Yugi – literally, that is (she was in a wheelchair). Mother Monster managed to avoid being hit by any of the eggy missiles, smiling her way through the ruckus to her waiting car after an impromptu performance in gay hotspot Arq. She had earlier made a surprise appearance at Nevermind, another of Sydney’s popular gay clubs. Beforehand, she hinted at what her Australian fans could expect, posting on Twitter: ‘Thinking of going out in Sydney tonight. How I wish we had a show. NEVERMIND, don’t listen to me. Maybe I’ll just go for a walk in the pARQ.’ Halfway through her concert in Sydney’s Town Hall, the 25-year-old – dressed in a black shroud – wheeled herself on stage in her fishy ensemble. SOURCE

Pop quiz people: Was that story completely true or the product of me playing drunk Madlibs at two in the morning because I’m going to die alone and unloved? Answer: It’s real! The only way you can tell is that if it were the latter, this post would be covered in rum and tears. Oh Captain Morgan, you’ll never leave me, will you? Oh my God, you’re bleeding! I’ll save you! *Glug glug glug…*

Lady Gaga might go under the sea …

Remember how Katy Perry dressed as a mermaid yesterday? Well, now Lady Gaga‘s doing it too.

Lady Gaga is still doing her part to make mermaids the next big thing in mythological creature trends. Though she went with a lo-fi, ’80s-esque video for The Edge of Glory instead of her rumored “fishy” theme, there’s a chance she could go under the sea for a different clip.

“I haven’t been excited about a video like this in a really long time,” she said on a Taiwanese talk show recently, refusing to name the title of the fourth single off of Born This Way.

“The relation of the video to my real life, as well as to my dream of the future, is really what makes it so special,” she said on the show. “Part of what Born This Way is all about is choosing to live halfway between reality and fantasy at all times, and how anyone can do that. So this video really, really challenges that idea and also celebrates it. And it’s very exciting.

“I will also say that Yuyi is in incubation, for anyone who knows what that means,” she added, referring to the name she’s given to her mermaid alter ego that she first unveiled during her performance for France’s Le Grand Journal in June. “Yuyi may just be born in the next video.” SOURCE

Look at my junk, isn’t it neat?
Wondering if it’s a vag or a peen?
Wouldn’t you say I’m the girl,
the girl who has, cock and vageen?

I’ve got cigarette glasses a plenty,
Lobster shoes and rifle tits galore,
You want a bubble dress? I’ve got twenty!
But who cares? No big deal, I want mooooooooooore!

I want to be where the fishes are,
I want shells on my tits and panties made of sea stars,
Maybe bedazzle a- what’s that word again?
Shaaaaaaaaaaaark!

I’m annoying on land, but just think I could be,
Even more irritating under the sea,
I’ve run out of plans, so I’ll try my hand,
Under the … seaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
