good morning everybody! oh i can't bear today being monday - i had so much fun all weekend long playing grand theft auto 4 (hence the lack of weekend posts) it's an amazing game - i completed a bunch of 'missions' (equaling about 12% of the game) and i'm already looking forward to next weekend for more game time (during the week there's just not enough time - boo hoo!) right now i've got five copies of the brand new portishead album - their third studio release - simply titled third to toss out here on popbytes - the first five people to email me at mk@popbytes.com will win! (please make sure to include your mailing address)
i've loved the 'trip-hop' band from bristol ever since their 1994 debut album dummy - and just a few weeks ago i got to catch them rehearsing for their appearance at this year's coachella music festival (i'm pictured below along with my pal CK) i was totally blown away - lead singer beth gibbons is fucking amazing - her live vocals were absolutely chillingly gorgeous and stunning! you can check out some of the band's new material below - there's three tracks posted for your listening pleasure! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo
good morning y'all! i wouldn't call myself a huge ashlee simpson fan at all but i have been lured into digging some of her catchier tracks like little miss obsessive (featuring plain white t's lead singer tom higgenson) the second single off her brand new album bittersweet world which just dropped last week...and could possibly be her last album - sales weren't so hot for ms. simpson - even with all that drummed up and perfectly timed press about her engagement to boyfriend pete wentz along w/ the possibility of ashlee having a bun in the oven...however i did pick up the album and it's fairly decent - i've certainly heard worse albums! (like her sister jessica simpson's disastrous a public affair) below you will find the dave aude remix of 'little miss obsessive' to enjoy on this oh so lovely monday...yup good times are ahead! popbytes over & out for now - xxoo
good morning! i've been meaning to post about UK soul singer adele (join her on myspace) who has been making quite a splash with her debut album 19 along with her first single chasing pavements - she's been compared to amy winehouse and duffy - yet she definitely has her own style that i've been digging on for a few months now - plus she's playing los angeles next month at the roxy (may 21st) which i know will be a kick-ass show! i came across this smooth remix of one of adele's tracks hometown glory courtesy of night facilities - please have a listen below and let's all try to make it through monday! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
good morning! over the weekend i spent a lot of time listening to mariah carey's new album E=MC2 which hits stores tomorrow and i've become completely obsessed with this one track called i'm that chick - i'm convinced mariah needs to release the song as her third single (her 2nd one bye bye (a really nice ballad) is just starting to make the rounds now) although technically this is my 'monday .mp3' column - i only have a live performance of the track to share with you but i love the song so much i had to post it here in some manner this morning! plus the fact she's doing the track live possibly means it could be a single - it will totally be another #1 hit for ms. carey! besides the song below - the rest of the album is pretty solid - i don't know if she'll gain new followers with the album but fans of mariah (like myself) should be super happy with her latest outing! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
good morning y'all! oh the good times of monday are already upon us - ugh! anyways there's this song that has been floating around now for a few weeks that is totally growing on me - it's 'american idol' winner jordin sparks' second hot single no air featuring rihanna's supposed boy toy chris brown - i wasn't super crazy for jordin - in fact i voted for blake lewis to win 'idol' but i have to hand it to ms. sparks - i adored her first single tattoo and now this track has grabbed me as well! below is a great faster remix (from jason nevins) of the song that i think you'll enjoy! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
good morning! if you haven't heard about leona lewis (join her on myspace) you're probably living under a rock! she's the super talented young lady who won UK's x factor back in 2006 (the british version of american idol) and has been mentored by simon cowell (and was signed by music mogul clive davis) who introduced her last week on oprah winfrey's daytime talk show to american audiences - and now her hugely popular song bleeding love just landed at number one on the US billboard hot 100 chart after just six weeks which marks the first time in over twenty years a british female has topped the chart (the last time was back in 1987 with kim wilde's 'you keep me hanging on') ms. lewis' debut album spirit finally gets a proper release here in the states next week (april 8th) below is a remix of 'bleeding love' (watch the video) the track is my new obsession at the moment - she simply has one of the most incredible voices around today - for sure comparable to say whitney houston & mariah carey - plus she's totally gorgeous! i'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more from leona! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
good morning! next tuesday (april 1st) moby drops his ninth studio album last night and right now i am loving the second single off the album disco lies which happened to be featured during the party scene in cloverfield (a hugely disappointing flick if you ask me...) below i've got a super hot remix of the song (that features an anonymous kick-ass female singer) along with the video which you must watch - it tells the story of a baby chicken who sees his chick friends being slaughtered and escapes only to return ten years later to exact his revenge...it's almost enough to make me go vegetarian! (although seriously i could never live without bacon) popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
good morning & happy st. patrick's day - don't forget to wear green! this week i'm switching up my 'monday .mp3' column a bit simply because i'm totally enamored with 'soul pop' welsh singer duffy (join her on myspace) who i've posted about on here before - right now there's a ton of things going on with her that i thought was worthy of sharing with you all! she just played her first gig in the states at SXSW and she's also playing a sold out show at NYC's hiro ballroom tonight - oh i'd kill to be in the audience! i should have taken my ass down to austin TX to see duffy live but unfortunately i don't have a ton of vacation time yet i'm sure she'll make it out to los angeles at some point...
duffy's debut album rockferry was released earlier this month overseas and will hit the states on may 18th! (last week her hit UK single mercy was the free itune of the week which you can still download) over the weekend i was determined to find her album which i did and i'm happy to report it's just as excellent as i thought it might be! below are a few pictures of her performing at the levi's/fader fort party along with a video of her doing a stripped down version of mercy (also catch her doing an incredible cover of hot chip's ready for the floor) plus there's links to my previous posts on her (the mercy remix is killer) i bet duffy is going to be huge this year - easily a grammy nominee for best new artist! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
good morning! oh yes i'm just as shocked as you might be that i'm posting about miley cyrus but like i mentioned a few weeks ago (while i was live blogging the oscars) there was this song i kept hearing on the radio called see you again and i had no clue who sang the track...after catching it a few times i was determined to discover who was responsible for it! i was in complete shock when i realized it was a actually a tune from ms. cyrus (at first i thought i must be mistaken but i wasn't) off her latest double disc album hannah montana 2: meet miley cyrus i don't have anything against the girl yet her larger than life tween following and disney dynasty didn't exactly spur me on to dig deeper but i must admit to really digging the 'teen pop' song and i just found a fairly decent remix last night that i thought would be perfect to feature as this week's 'monday .mp3' - it's a total guilty pleasure and i'm imploring you to give the track a listen - i promise not to tell anyone! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo! (while listening you can almost forget that miley sings the track yet she mentions herself by name...along with her 'best friend' lesley)
» listen to miley cyrus' see you again (johnny coppola's dance you again remix) (.mp3 5.7mb)
good morning & happy monday! i wanted to introduce y'all to tina dico (join her on myspace) a danish born - british based singer/songwriter whose fourth album count to ten is releasing here in the states on april 8th - she's already a multi-platinum selling artist in her home country of denmark (where she goes by tina dickow) and for good reason - she's really decent - her stripped down acoustic style and haunting voice are quite refreshing! (tina also won best female vocalist at the danish music awards back in 2006) i was sent her new album to preview as i do get a lot of music pitches and something struck me with ms. dico especially the title track - sometimes i'd love to close my eyes and count to ten and have everything make sense again! the song is posted below - please do have a listen! tina will be playing a show here in los angeles on may 15th at hotel cafe and i intend to go and see her play live - i know she'll be excellent! (there's also a video below featuring ms. dico talking about her new album) popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
