Listen: Björk’s ‘Crystalline’

September is going to be a very good month, not only are we getting a new Tori Amos album (Night Of Hunters), there’s also Björk‘s seventh solo album, Biophilia. I’ve always been a huge fan of our crazy, sexy and cool Icelandic girl but over the past few years I felt like we lost touch, yet based upon the album’s first completely kick-ass single Crystalline (listen below) I’m super excited at the prospect of spending some much needed time together. Hands down, she’s without a doubt one of the most cutting-edge artists of our time, the woman is seriously a genius on a number of levels, a total music prodigy fully realized. Plus the whole project is being overseen by one of my favorite offbeat directors, Michel Gondry! You can read more about her new album over on The Guardian, her latest project sounds truly fascinating.

Coco Austin is a ‘Shoe Freak’!

Oh my word, you have to listen to this clip of Coco Austin‘s upcoming dance single Shoe Freak, produced by her hubby Ice-T! The making of the song (if you can call it that) is being featured on their new E! reality show Ice Loves Coco which airs Sunday nights at 10:30PM. I don’t mind Coco at all, and Ice-T is a legend but this song is just all sorts of wrong but I bet in a couple of weeks I’ll be listening to it non-stop, it could actually be a guilty pleasure just like Money Can’t Buy You Class or Tardy For The Party!

Listen: Shania Twain – Today Is Your Day

Can you believe it has been almost nine years since country superstar Shania Twain (turning 46 in August) released her fourth studio album Up! back in 2002? During that time out of the spotlight Shania’s had many up and downs, including getting a divorce (after finding out her hubby and longtime producer John Mutt Lange was messing around with one of her friends) and then recently got remarried – to the guy whose wife was cheating with Shania’s ex-hubby, it’s all very confusing I know! I’ve been a huge fan of Shania for years now, and I was seriously itching for her to find her voice again and finally here is Shania’s brand new single Today Is Your Day (featured on her reality show, Why Not? With Shania Twain airing on the OWN network), have a listen below, I think it’s a great comeback song (produced by David Foster), there better be a new album coming down the pike soon rather than later. Ms. Twain also just announced a two-year residency starting in December 2012 at Las Vegas’ famed Caesars Colosseum called Shania: Still The One, and will mark her first time performing in public in seven years, the paycheck must be huge! Even though she’s been through a lot personally, I think she looks fabulous, still sounds great plus her new hubby Frèdèric Thièbaud is way hotter than her old one, I think we can all safely say, you go girl!

Eminem disses Lady Gaga with ‘A Kiss’!

So Eminem is back with a new track called A Kiss (featuring Royce Da 5’9″), and the good (or bad, depending on your tastes) news is that he’s back to name-dropping stupid celebs so he can make fun of them. Unfortunately, the last time he did this (Remember We Made You? No? Neither does anyone else) everything came off dated because as we all know, celebrity mockery has to be an instantaneous thing otherwise you get left behind. Case in point: He decided to make fun of Lady Gaga by pulling up old rumors about her being transgender, which is (A) kinda ignorant, and (B) kinda old news. At this point, it’s like making a joke about Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift or about how the cake is a lie. Although he does go for the jugular when it comes to Justin Bieber, so I’m willing to let it slide. For now.

Simon Curtis is a ‘Superhero’!

I am beyond excited to present pop sensation Simon Curtis‘ incredibly hot new single, Superhero off his upcoming sophomore album R∆ (due out very soon), along with a hot photo exclusive to PopBytes shot by up and coming celebrity photographer Tyler Shields. You might remember Simon’s debut album, 8-bit Heart, which he offered up as a free download (still available on his website), and was one of last year’s hottest pop releases and now he’s back, stronger (and cuter) than ever! I’m totally in love with Simon’s new song, please have a listen for yourself below and pick up the track on iTunes! I recently asked Simon to talk a bit about what we can expect from his new album, and here’s what he had to say …

Simon Curtis - Superhero

R∆ is a really, really dark electronic album, which is ironic considering how positive and uplifting Superhero is, but even Superhero has a lot of dark elements, sonically, and lyrically, which people really haven’t picked up on yet. I’m somewhat obsessed with symbolism so anyone looking to dig a little deeper will definitely have a field day with R∆. Musically, it is an ode to everything I love about pop music, pure, Swedish, late nineties, early 2000′s pop. I’m always striving to write my own Blackout so I think I always wind up making tunes that sound somewhat Britney-esque- just really dark, borderline evil Britney-esque tunes. – Simon Curtis

Listen: Van Go Lion – Body Moves

Some of you might already be clued into one of Portland’s hottest up and coming electropop bands, Van Go Lion, but in case you’re not, allow me to introduce you to duo Amy Paige and Josh Loerzel. I swear I get about what seems like five hundred music pitches a week and I turn down 99% of them but I really liked what I heard and totally had to feature them here on PopBytes (you guys know me by now, I never feature music I don’t care for). Plus we totally bonded on Twitter over one of my favorite flicks, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead (I’m right on top of that Rose!). Have a listen to their kick-ass debut single Body Moves below, plus they have offered up a free download of an extended mix (by Qubiq) of the track! Van Go Lion’s Body Moves EP is now available on iTunes, be sure to keep your eyes on these two!

Listen: Britney Spears’ Till the World Ends Remix

Here’s even more fun with Britney Spears‘ hit dance single Till the World Ends … first there was the music video, then the much better dancier one and now this hot remix (featuring tour mate Miss Nicki Minaj with a bonus helping of the song’s writer, Ke$ha) which is REALLY good. I pinky promise.

Britney says that the original is “sicker than the remix,” but you know what? I’m gonna have to challenge her on that now that I’ve heard this. This version has a deeper bass groove, making the song sound dirtier and all around more sexy.

Nicki lays some slick rhymes (I’m pretty sure she hands out another diss to Lil’ Kim) handing the song off to Ke$ha and Britney who trade off sharing the vocals seamlessly.

BritBrit vs. BritBrit, Nicki and Ke$ha. Who’s your money on? Take a listen and place your bet!

Listen: Aubrey O’Day’s new single ‘Automatic’

Hot on the heels of her reality TV show’s season finale last night, here’s Aubrey O’Day‘s brand new single, Automatic. I wonder if she’ll be able to reach the success of her former girl group Danity Kane? (Who didn’t love Damaged?!) Up until I watched her show, I thought she was just a big skank but it turns out I actually quite like her, I guess it was a smart move on her part to do a reality show, she totally won me over and I love this song, hopefully it will get some radio play. The song is also now available for purchase on iTunes, let’s hope by the end of the year Aubrey’s debut solo album will see the light of day!

Britney teams up with Rihanna for an ‘S&M’ remix!

Wow, Britney Spears is really gunning for the gays with her new album Femme Fatale, isn’t she? After releasing two back-to-back gay club hits (No, really, I went out a couple nights ago and they played nothing but Hold It Against Me and Till The World Ends for the entire night. Overkill much?) she’s now teaming up with Rihanna to remix RiRi’s S&M. Ironically, no practicing BDSM Dom or Sub I know would ever be caught dead listening to it, which is either really funny or really sad depending on how you interpret it. It’s not a bad song or anything, it’s just that … Well, it doesn’t mesh well in a dungeon. Peaches? Yes. Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Usually, but depends on the song. But BritBrit and Rihanna? Hell naw. Anyway, listen to it below and judge for yourself.

Listen: Lady Gaga – Born This Way (The Country Road Version)

I am loving this totally different and new interpretation and of Born This Way called The Country Road Version and was just released by Lady Gaga herself at midnight on Twitter
