pink brings her funhouse to los angeles!

hey everyone! last night i had the extreme pleasure of catching pink on her funhouse tour at staples center here in los angeles – as expected girlfriend totally kicked ass – and unlike britney spears she sang every song live – no lip syncing at all – which was quite refreshing! she did a great mix of new and old material along with a couple of covers (the setlist is posted below) the crowd was in total high spirits (adam lambert was there with his hot boyfriend drake labry) but then some super annoying ladies were getting all upset because people were standing up in front of ‘em – they were screaming sit down, sit down – i started to get annoyed since they were making more of disturbance than the people standing – i turned to them and i was like shut the fuck up and after that – they stopped making a fuss! unfortunately pink did something to her shoulder four days ago – so she wasn’t able to do as many acrobatics on the ropes as she normally would have but she was amazing – such a performer and her body is beyond incredible – i just adore her! check out some pictures i snapped below – and there’s video i shot of her last song glitter in the air – she was even dipped in water at the very end – it such a cool touch! popbytes over & out for now …. xoxo

i’m off to see pink!

good evening! tonight i’m heading down to staples center to catch pink on her funhouse tour which just kicked off here in the states a few days ago up in seattle (the ting tings are opening – i’m going to some party tomorrow night where they’ll be performing too!) i saw her once before when she toured with justin timberlake – she put on an excellent show back then – i think she might actually top herself tonight – i can’t wait! her most recent album funhouse was my top favorite album of 2008 – i’m excited to see her perform some of her new material live but i still totally love her debut single there you go (watch the video below) from back in 2000 – i’ve been a huge fan from the very start … it’s great to see her doing better than ever nine years later! i’m hoping to spot her sexy hubby carey hart at the show – he’s super adorable (all those tattoos … yummy!) i’m thrilled they managed to work things out and are staying together – mr. & mrs. hart make a totally kick-ass couple! of course i’ll be twittering from the show – so please stay tuned! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

i’m off to see liza minnelli!

UPDATE! OH MY WORD! i had the best time tonight! below i said that liza minnelli wasn’t what she used to be – but i totally regret that statement – i take it all back … she was AMAZING tonight … i can’t even begin to tell you – it was one of the best shows i’ve been to – and i’ve seen many shows and this show at the hollywood bowl truly ranks among the best of ‘em! i’m beyond psyched to see her again saturday night – i’ll do a full review soon … long live liza (with a Z) xoxo!

good evening! although i’m still super excited to see liza minnelli at the hollywood bowl tonight – the unexpected news of DJ AM (aka adam goldstein) passing away (at age 36) really threw me for a loop … i swear these past few months have been truly devastating – we’ve lost so many great people before their time – i can’t remember so many deaths in one year – it’s really bizarre and creepy – 2009 … the year of death! anyways i’m going to leave you with ms. minnelli’s rousing performance of but the world goes round from her appearance on the late late show with craig ferguson last week – she’s certainly not what she used to be (heck, she’s 63) but i just adore her wacky energy and over the top campy vibe … she’s the best – a total living legend! of course i’ll try and twitter from the bowl – since i don’t get reception on my iphone over there – i actually dug out my blackberry … hopefully i’ll have better luck with that! popbytes over & out for tonight – much love to all as always … xoxo

amanda blank ‘might like you better’ if…

good evening! tonight i’m heading out again … this time to finally catch amanda blank in concert (she’s the opening act for brooklyn duo matt and kim down at the el rey) i totally fell in love with her solo debut album i love you which was released earlier this month (it’s for sure a contender for my top favorite albums of 2009) i featured ms. blank’s sexy first single might like you better a few weeks ago here on popbytes – and now i’ve got the new video to show you guys featuring tons of mylar balloon popping action – definitely check out the super hot madness below! of course i’ll try to post updates via twitterplease follow me if you don’t already! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

i’m off to see tracy chapman!

good evening! oh today was such a long and busy day at work – i’m totally itching to get out and relax a bit – and tonight’s tracy chapman show down at the wiltern is just what i need right now! i’ve been a huge fan of ms. chapman since her 1988 self-titled debut album was released – hands down fast car is one of the best songs ever – and i’ve never had the chance to see tracy sing it live – girlfriend has to do that track tonight! last november she released her 8th studio album called our bright future – for some reason i totally missed it but i picked up a copy yesterday and i’ve been playing it all day … it’s superb as i expected it would be! below you’ll find the video for the first single sing for you – i love her voice – listening to her sing is like wrapping yourself in a warm & comfy blanket – i know her show is going to be stellar – i will try to twitter updates tonight! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

grace jones dazzled at the hollywood bowl

good evening! last night was truly a magical evening at the hollywood bowl – it was legendary diva grace jones‘ first show at the venue and i don’t think she’s played los angeles in years – i knew as soon as tickets were available – i simply had to be there! although i had a couple of friends going to the show – i picked up one ticket for myself in the garden box area – i didn’t mind being there alone at all – i had an amazing seat – right smack dab in the middle – and just far enough back to enjoy the spectacle of seeing ms. jones command the stage plus i made a couple of new friends (the woman sitting next to me was super nice) ms. jones started off the show draped in a large silver piece of cloth (watch the video below) as she began singing this is life off her kick-ass new album hurricane at the end she revealed herself wearing this wild outfit – complete with a white mane wig and headpiece (pictured below – many thanks to cyana trend.land for the pics) the first of many insanely crazy, sexy and cool costumes (designed by eiko ishioka) she probably changed about a total of seven or eight times – during each switch she talked to the audience from backstage – just listening to her speak was incredible – her voice is unlike any other – it’s haunting at times – she’s in a league of her own!

ms. jones ran through ten songs before her final encore song pull up to the bumper – i think she might have also performed her classic tune slave to the rhythm but since the bowl is in a residential area – there’s lame rules about performing past a certain time (10:30pm) which totally sucks – the audience was eating up everything she put out there … i could have easily spent the entire night watching her prance around the stage – i still can’t believe she’s 61! girlfriend still has an incredible body and her deep throaty voice gave me chills (i swear she’s like from another planet … a place i’d seriously love to visit) she really put on an excellent show (an interesting tidbit: her sexy son paulo goude was playing in her band) if you live in NYC – you MUST try to get tickets to grace’s show on thursday night (july 30th) at the hammerstein ballroom (a way smaller venue than the bowl) i know that’s going to be a killer show! my only regret is not bringing my camera along – sometimes the staff really search your bag but last night the guard barely looked inside! i also would have liked to tweet more but i got zero reception over there (which was actually fine – i got to enjoy myself without having to worry about twittering updates) when i wrote about her new album last year – i said i’d love to see her live someday – now i’m thrilled and beyond thankful i had the opportunity to – it was an evening i won’t soon forget – a once-in-a-lifetime experience! popbytes over & out for tonight … xoxo

PS my darling liza minnelli is playing at the bowl on august 28th & 29th – i already have a ticket to the first show – if i can get a decent seat for the second one – i’ll be at the show too … i can’t believe i’m finally going to see liza in person – OMG!

UPDATE! my review of grace jones is up – click here to read it – the show was amazing!

hey kids! i’ve got a big day ahead of me – first up i’m leaving in a little while to cover the red carpet arrivals at the comedy central roast of joan rivers – hopefully i will be able to snag some pics and video (plus of course i’ll be tweeting) but then i must run back here to grab my bag o’ goodies (which includes a bottle of wine along with some tasty treats from trader joes) and walk up to the hollywood bowl to catch the legendary grace jones in concert – this is the first time she’s playing the bowl and she doesn’t really play that many shows here in the US (she is playing NYC on july 30th) i’ve always been a huge fan of her exotic and kooky ways (plus she starred in one my favorite james bond flicks a view to a kill) last year she released her first album in nineteen years called hurricane which is quite amazing – check out the video below for the second single called williams’ blood (the song is about how she takes after her mom’s musical side of the family) tonight i’m totally going to be a slave to the rhythm … please stay tuned on twitter for updates! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

i’m off to see (and meet!) jay brannan

hey kids! i’ve got a couple of busy (but fun) nights ahead of me – starting with tonight! right now i’m heading over to the roxy over on sunset to see jay brannan (join him on myspace / follow him on twitter) some of you probably already know him … the slightly jaded yet super adorable (just look at his picture below) openly gay singer/songwriter (who got all naked and sexy in shortbus) he recently released an album of cover songs called in living color (itunes) the follow-up to his kick-ass debut album godammned (itunes) he’s got such a sweet and honest vibe – i’ve been dying to see him play in person! before the show i might get to meet up with him for a few minutes and snap a couple of pictures … of course – i will keep everyone updated via twitter! enjoy the video below for his track can’t have it all – he’s just about the cutest thing ever! popbytes over & out for tonight … xoxo

tori amos does los angeles (and KCRW)

good evening! so last night i was at the greek theatre (a lovely outdoor venue here in los angeles nestled inside of griffith park) catching tori amos on her sinful attraction tour – of course tori put on an amazing show like she always does (for those of you who have seen her before … you know exactly what i’m talking about) the set list borrowed heavily from her previous albums and out of a total of 22 songs – she only played four from her latest release abnormally attracted to sin – i was thrilled when she played marys of the sea (from the beekeeper), space dog and icicle (from under the pink) … just a few of my favorite tracks! (you can read more about the show and see some pictures & video over on undented) there’s nothing i can really say about ms. amos that i haven’t said before on popbytes – she’s beyond brilliant and will forever be the consummate musician … if i were stranded on a deserted island and could only pick one artist’s catalog (i could never pick just one album) to keep me company – without the slightest doubt i would have to choose tori amos!

while in LA – ms. amos took a little time out to stop by KCRW in santa monica this past thursday to play a few tracks and answer a couple of questions (on morning becomes eclectic with host jason bentley) watch the video below! anyways i hope y’all are having a kick-ass weekend so far – this morning i went up to malibu (unfortunately i didn’t spot cher) for a little beach time (at point dume) although the water was super cold – i actually went in and it was really refreshing plus i spotted dolphins and sea lions from the shore! tomorrow i’m meeting up with a few peeps who i haven’t seen in ages – i can’t wait! popbytes over & out for tonight … xoxo

beyonce redeemed herself w/ her ‘i am…’ tour

good evening! i’m still reeling from last night’s beyoncé show – her i am… tour stopped by los angeles’ staples center and put on a truly incredible show … i liked this show way better than her last outing (two years ago) for the beyoncé experience which just tried too hard – this time around girlfriend had a perfectly balanced show and showcased what she truly does best – singing & dancing! when i purchased my VIP ticket a few months ago – i wasn’t sure if the price i paid for my 2nd row floor seat would be worth it – but i’d gladly spend it again – it was worth every hard-earned cent – my view was perfect (mom tina knowles was sitting right in front of me) it was amazing to see B do her thing from just a few feet away! during get me bodied my mug ended up being flashed on the jumbotron screens like three times – i was beyond excited! (plus i was twittering & dancing up a storm) the set list (posted below) was a perfect mix of new & old material – i can’t even begin to tell you guys how much i enjoyed the show … i’d seriously love to see it again – beyoncé is a true performer – and managed to put out tons of high energy and good vibes into the audience … everyone around me was eating up every bit of it! (at the end she sang halo and did a small tribute to michael jackson which was particularly touching since less than a week ago – his coffin was at the very same venue) when all was said and done – i was totally beat – i can’t even imagine how she must feel after giving it her all – if she’s coming to a city near you – i’d highly suggest picking up tickets to see ms. knowles – you will not be disappointed – she’s a force to be reckoned with! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo
