good evening! oh my goodness - i seriously cannot believe i'm going out to catch a show on a monday night (ugh) but i simply couldn't resist seeing a camp - a side/solo project from swedish lovely nina persson who many of you'll know as the endearing lead singer of the cardigans - i've always loved her sweet & adorably melancholy voice - i'm quite excited to see her in person! tonight's show is down at the troubadour and happens to be the very last stop on their mini U.S. tour - promoting the band's second album colonia (you can watch the video for stronger than jesus below - it's the album's first single) popbytes over & out for now (don't forget you can always find me on twitter) xoxo
hey hey! over the past few weeks i've been totally loving the brand new peaches album i feel cream and tonight i'm finally going to see her play live over at the henry fonda theater - i've been a pretty big fan for a couple of years now but i never had the chance to see her in concert - tonight should be a completely kick-ass show! (she's also playing tomorrow night too) you must watch her new video below for the track more - which features plenty of sexy balloon action! i hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far - i finally got to sleep in late - i need to rest up - i have a couple of busy days ahead of me - i'll make sure to keep you guys in the loop and please make sure to follow me on twitter for updates from peaches' show tonight! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
UPDATE! i'm back home - and little miss lady sovereign managed to do her entire show - without any fuckups - i was expecting the worst - but i was quite pleasantly pleased with her feisty & spirited performance this evening! (i almost missed the show because the prop ha8e protests were clogging up traffic - for once i wasn't annoyed with the delays) she totally worked the crowd up - and i thought she did an excellent job - so contrary to what might have gone on in other cities - she totally did los angeles right tonight! popbytes over & out for tonight ... xoxo
hey everyone! after an extremely disappointing day here in california - with the state's supreme court upholding prop ha8e (i'm so ashamed to admit i live in this state right now - iowa is looking more & more attractive everyday) i'm excited to just get myself out of the house tonight and head down to see lady sovereign at the el rey on wilshire (plus a salted margarita (or two) will for sure help put me in better spirits) although from what i've heard about her messy live performances - tonight could be yet another disappointment (she stormed off stage the other night up in san francisco - and was slurring in seattle) but regardless of what transpires tonight - i'm still totally digging her new album jigsaw (which i posted about a few weeks ago) enjoy her music video below for i got you dancing - and check my twitter for updates from the show - hopefully girlfriend will make it through more than three songs! popbytes over & out for tonight ... xoxo
hey hey! i had to do a quick post about the indigo girls - i had the pleasure of seeing them again in concert this past thursday evening at the el rey down on wilshire (i've lost count but this was around the 26th time i've seen 'em play live) i freaked out because the date of their los angeles show somehow slipped my mind - i
almost didn't get to go - since it was completely sold-out and the guest list was pretty full but thankfully i found someone who was able to get me on the list at the very last minute (you know who you are - i seriously owe you big time!) as per always amy ray and emily saliers put on an AMAZING show - the setlist was incredible - a great mixture of their new and old material (which included classics like galileo, closer to fine, shame on you, and power of two) and everyone sang along - that's the wonderful thing about seeing them play live - everyone totally gets into the show - hands down they're one of the best acts to see live (hence the reason i've seen them so many times) if you check out their myspace page - you'll find listings for the rest of their shows in support of their spectacular new album poseidon and the bitter bug (which i featured here on popbytes not too long ago) if you have the opportunity to go to one of their shows - you can't pass it up! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
PS the video below of galileo is from their show in madison, wisconsin on april 30th!
good evening! even though it's easter sunday - my favorite local venue the roxy is open tonight - i'm heading down there later this evening to catch UK's new electropop duo la roux (join them on myspace) made up of singer elly jackson and producer ben langmaid - there's been a ton of buzz over their self-titled debut album due out in june - plus the two just opened up for lily allen on the UK leg of her tour! below you'll find the stylish video for their awesome second single in for the kill (also check out quicksand - the first single) i'm looking forward to a very good time (perhaps you'll catch me twittering from the show) i just wish it wasn't sunday night - unfortunately i do have to go back to work tomorrow morning - ugh! popbytes over & out for tonight ... xoxo
good evening! last night i had the opportunity to see lily allen play live for the third time - i've been a huge fan of ms. allen's since my pal victoria first turned me onto her! i must say i did notice a difference between her first los angeles show at the troubadour (back in october '06) and last night at the wiltern (her second US stop on her new tour) she seemed more confident and mature - overall things were a bit more polished - but still held onto her silly london girl vibe! not only did she sound great - girlfriend looked great too - with her new shorter hair and slimmer self - she came out on stage (a few minutes late due to sound issues) wearing playboy bunny ears and took command of the stage! eventually the ears came off - plus she ditched her high heels for a pair of sneakers - and of course lily enjoyed a couple of glasses of white wine along the way! she played a lot of her new album it's not me, it's you along with few tracks from her first album alright, still (i was bummed she didn't play knock 'em out, shame for you, or alfie - the full set list is pasted below) for her last encore she covered britney spears' hit song womanizer - during which out of the blue lindsay lohan popped on stage (which i didn't even notice because i was busy trying to film with my camera) i know the two ladies are good friends but it seemed so very pointless (here's video of the incident) i suppose after the show lindsay & lily (along with mom dina lohan - who was also at the show) painted the town red - ms. allen woke up this morning and twittered about being hung over! i know she must have recovered because when i left work today - she was rehearsing for her appearance on jimmy kimmel tonight! ms. allen is touring the states through may (tour dates) definitely check her out if you have the chance! popbytes over & out for tonight ... xoxo

UPDATE! hey hey! i just got home - and prince put on a stellar show tonight (i still hate nokia live but whatever - that venue sucks ass along with their crappy margaritas on tap) i was jumping for joy when he played some of his classics (1999, let's go crazy, purple rain, if i was your girlfriend, controversy, i feel for you) the crowd was going totally insane - everyone ate up every second of it! watching him play guitar is truly an amazing (almost religious) experience - he told the crowd a friend told me i do music, and i told him no ... i am music - and that's the truth! at the end legendary drummer sheila e. joined him on stage for glamorous life which i fucking LOVE - that was such a highlight and special treat! my only regret is not getting tickets to his other two shows tonight (one at the conga room, and one at club nokia) i would have loved to seen more! popbytes over & out for tonight ... xoxo
hey hey! i think i'm finally recovered from my three nights out this past week - on thursday evening i saw yelle down at the el rey - she was totally awesome live and so full of energy - the audience was eating up her delectable brand of electro dance pop - french style! (although i was disappointed to see perez hilton up on stage (again) to introduce her - ugh) the highlight of the evening for me was when i bumped into adorable aussie singer sam sparro who i had seen spin a few weeks back at the roxy - he actually cut in front of me on the drink line but then quickly realized what he had done and apologized - i mentioned meeting him at his DJ set and he did remember me - and then sam offered to buy me a drink - how could i turn his offer down? (of course i managed to give him one of my popbytes cards ... i was seriously on cloud nine) below are a few pictures i snapped from the evening along with a bit of video i shot - i adore yelle's whole '80s inspired vibe (right down to her vintage white hi-top reebok sneakers) you simply must pick up her highly enjoyable and addictive album pop-up! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
hey everybody! last night lady gaga brought her fame ball tour to los angeles' wiltern theatre - overall she did a stupendous job - the place was truly jumping especially during her smash dance hits such as poker face, love game, and just dance - each track had everyone up on their feet with hands high in the air! she did take the piano in her bubble outfit (pictured below) which was the only lull in show which lasted about an hour - i figured she would perform her entire debut album the fame but she did leave out a few tracks (summerboy, i like it rough, brown eyes) but she debuted a new song called future love! all things considered - the show was excellent - from the costumes to the dancing - she's got incredible style and is a true performer!
my first post on lady gaga was an interview i conducted with her back in july - when people were asking 'lady gaga who?' it's pretty amazing to see how far she's come since then - i told her i knew she'd be big and right now she's huge but not as huge as perez hilton's fugly head - he showed up at the end of the show (with a fucking bow on his head) to present her with an award commemorating her single just dance reaching triple platinum status with over 3 millions copies sold - his appearance completely turned my stomach - perez said he felt like a proud papa - acting like he single-handedly made her a pop star - i do understand he has tons of traffic on his website but i don't get the point of him coming out on stage - all the ass kissing on both sides is pretty sickening (she was bound to break out with or without his help) it was a disappointing end to a fabulous night - but i'd still highly recommend catching her show if it happens to come by you (here's the full tour schedule) hopefully you won't have to be subjected to seeing perez! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
PS the pictures below are a mixture from her debut show down in san diego (this past thursday) and last night's los angeles show - and check my youtube page for two small videos i posted!
UPDATE! it's really late and i'm super tired - unfortunately solange didn't come on until 11pm - and i had to go to the airport so i was only able to catch a few minutes of her performance which i loved - she was adorable in person! below are two pics i snapped (i was so close!) i must see her again at some point but right now i seriously need to go to bed - i'll check you all tomorrow...xoxo
good evening! i'm super excited to head down to the viper room to catch beyonce's little sister solange's show - back in 2003 girlfriend released an album called solo star which really didn't do so well but her latest effort sol-angel and the hadley st. dreams is really awesome - i was surprised by how much i actually liked it! below is the video for her smokin' song sandcastle disco - along with a stream of a remixed version - and of course i will try to twitter from the show tonight - once it ends i need to race over to LAX to pick up my folks who are flying in from the chilly east coast - i can't wait to see them - it's been about a year since i saw 'em last! popbytes over & out for now...xoxo
