Saoirse Ronan is ‘Hanna’

I am totally down for the upcoming action movie called Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan (who I’ve loved ever since Atonement, that movie is amazing, the music alone is chilling!), the incredible Cate Blanchett and cutie Eric Bana! Look for in theaters on April 8th, for now watch the trailer below.

Hanna

Award-winning director Joe Wright creates a boldly original suspense thriller with HANNA, starring Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement) in the title role. Raised by her father (Eric Bana of Star Trek), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland, Hanna’s upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.

Win Win: The trailer (Amy Ryan rocks!)

Check out the trailer for the Win Win, a new film from Tom McCarthy (The Vistor, The Station Agent) starring one of my favorite actors Paul Giamatti (I love Sideways) and Amy Ryan (who is hilarious Holly on The Office) plus Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) and Melanie Jayne Lynskey (Have you seen 1994′s Heavenly Creatures?!) The film opens next month on March 18th, it looks right up my alley!

Tom McCarthy, acclaimed writer/ director of THE VISITOR and THE STATION AGENT, once again explores the depths and nuances of human relationships in his new film about the allegiances and bonds between unlikely characters. Disheartened attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, stumbles across a star athlete through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy’s mother shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything. McCarthy’s deft touch with balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in WIN WIN.

First Look: ‘The Tree of Life’ with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn

OMG! The new film from acclaimed writer/director Terrence Malick, titled The Tree of Life, looks simply amazing! Just watch the newly released trailer below … it stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain – I bet this film is going to garner tons of accolades but next awards season since it’s not opening until next summer!

From Terrence Malick, the acclaimed director of such classic films as Badlands, Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life is the impressionistic story of a family in the 1950′s. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick’s signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

First Look: ‘The Beaver’ with Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster

Even though I can’t stand real-life asshole Mel Gibson, I do love Jodie Foster and their new movie, The Beaver, coming out in the spring looks pretty darn good! Not only does Ms. Foster star in the movie, she also directed it. Watch the just released trailer below!

Two-time Academy Award® winner Jodie Foster directs and co-stars with two-time Academy Award® winner Mel Gibson in The Beaver – an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track … until a beaver hand puppet enters his life.

‘Winnie The Pooh’ is making his comeback!

Oh this is super exciting … the brand new trailer for Winnie The Pooh, coming to theaters next summer on July 15th (unfortunately that’s a long wait). I love the fact the animation isn’t all tricked out or in 3D, it’s totally old school! This marks Winnie’s return to the big screen after a thirty-five year absence, the Pooh is awesome but I seriously adore some of his pals, namely Piglet and Eeyore. I really hope this film ends up being a huge hit, there’s definitely something to be said for this traditional style of animation, it brings me back!

Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh, the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo–and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail.

Trailer: Nicole Kidman & Aaron Eckhart in ‘Rabbit Hole’

Watch the new trailer for Rabbit Hole starring Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart, and one of my personal favorites, Dianne Weist! The film is based upon on the 2005 award-winning play and is directed by John Cameron Mitchell (a total departure from his previous films, Hedwig and The Angry Inch and Shortbus). The performances look amazing (perhaps Oscar worthy?) but it’s bound to be an emotionally devastating film, I must see it for myself (with some tissues handy) when it opens on December 17th! Popbytes over and out … xoxo!

RABBIT HOLE is a vivid, hopeful, honest and unexpectedly witty portrait of a family searching for what remains possible in the most impossible of all situations. Becca and Howie Corbett (NICOLE KIDMAN and AARON ECKHART) are returning to their everyday existence in the wake of a shocking, sudden loss. Just eight months ago, they were a happy suburban family with everything they wanted. Now, they are caught in a maze of memory, longing, guilt, recrimination, sarcasm and tightly controlled rage from which they cannot escape. While Becca finds pain in the familiar, Howie finds comfort. The shifts come in abrupt, unforeseen moments. Becca hesitantly opens up to her opinionated, loving mother (DIANNE WIEST) and secretly reaches out to the teenager involved in the accident that changed everything (MILES TELLER); while Howie lashes out and imagines solace with another woman (SANDRA OH). Yet, as off track as they are, the couple keeps trying to find their way back to a life that still holds the potential for beauty, laughter and happiness. The resulting journey is an intimate glimpse into two people learning to re-engage with each other and a world that has been tilted off its axis.

What would Shakespeare think of Prospera?!

I kind of have mixed feelings about director Julie Taymor – her films are definitely visually stunning but none of them really impressed me except for Frida (Her biggest success was probably mounting The Lion King on Broadway which nabbed her a Tony Award) but I’m going to have to see her latest work – a film version of William Shakespeare‘s final play (and one of my personal favorites) The Tempest (believed to have been written way back around 1610!) The film uses Shakespeare’s original text but there’s one huge change – famed sorcerer Prospero is becoming sorceress Prospera – played by Dame Helen Mirren – four hundred years later, I wonder what Willy would think? Watch the newly released trailer below and look for it in theaters on December 10th! Popbytes over and out for now … xoxo!

In her big-screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s mystical thriller The Tempest, Academy Award-nominated Julie Taymor (Across the Universe, Frida, Titus) brings an original dynamic to the story by changing the gender of the sorcerer Prospero into the sorceress Prospera, portrayed by Helen Mirren. Prospera’s journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.

Trailer: Clint Eastwood’s new film ‘Hereafter’

Hey y’all! Watch the newly released trailer for Clint Eastwood‘s upcoming film Hereafter (out on October 22nd) starring Matt Damon (Clint also recently directed Matt in Invictus) and Bryce Dallas Howard. To be completely honest, I wasn’t totally blown away by the trailer but usually Mr. Eastwood (who turned eighty this past spring!) makes really decent films so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt – for now! Popbytes over and out for tonight … xoxo!

Hereafter tells the story of three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways. Matt Damon stars as George, a blue-collar American who has a special connection to the afterlife. On the other side of the world, Marie (Cécile de France), a French journalist, has a near-death experience that shakes her reality. And when Marcus (Frankie/George McLaren), a London schoolboy, loses the person closest to him, he desperately needs answers. Each on a path in search of the truth, their lives will intersect, forever changed by what they believe might–or must–exist in the hereafter.

Gwyneth Paltrow goes country in ‘Country Strong’

Watch the newly released trailer for Country Strong starring Gwyneth Paltrow as a country singer (Yup, she did all her own singing in the movie) who ends up in rehab but then gets a second shot at her career – it also stars Tim McGraw and Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester! Although the movie (out in January) does look a bit on the cheesy side – I think I’ll need to see this one because I do adore Ms. Paltrow – even though I know a lot of people don’t care for her or GOOP – Gwyneth is actually a decent actress and she’s not that bad of a singer but I don’t think she should quit her day job! Popbytes over and out for now … xoxo!

Must See: Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’

BLACK SWAN follows the story of Nina (Natalie Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Mila Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her … In theaters: December 1st, 2010
