good evening! i've been all over los angeles today getting ready to deal with MTV's video music awards '08 (the show's 25th anniversary - that fact makes me feel old!) which take place tomorrow not too far from my place over at hollywood's paramount studios (i already heard parking is a bit of a nightmare so i'm leaving extra early and carpooling with fellow blogger zack taylor of hot or not gossip) i finally settled on an outfit after much debate (to match my new neon orange nails) that i'm happy with (a mixture of diesel and energie) i seriously need to dress light since i know it's going to probably be hot as hell (and yes mom, i'm bringing some sunscreen...) make sure to check out popbytes tomorrow - i will be twittering all day long and hopefully i'll have some hot pictures along with video to share!
there's major events happening all over town this weekend...just last night over at the kodak theatre a bunch of celebrities got together to partake in a star-studded telethon to benefit an important organization stand up to cancer that aired on all three networks (i posted about the amazing diva musical performance last night) i was supposed to cover the event but i couldn't afford another vacation day (check-in time for press was too early) but thankfully my good friend tara was on the scene - make sure to check out her post!
last but not least...it's exactly five years ago today when i wrote up my first post here on popbytes (although my early entries are on the weak side) but once i picked up the pace it has been non-stop since then (i haven't missed one single day of posting in probably over 3 years now - thanks to inspiring words from my pal CK who told me i need to write everyday) right now i'm trying to think of some cool anniversary post celebrating five years of blogging...stay tuned! popbytes over & out for tonight - many thanks goes out to everyone who reads my blog and all the people along the way who have been so very kind & helpful to me (you all know who you are) xoxo

hey kids! one of the best things about the holidays here in southern california is of course the tournament of roses bowl & parade that takes place every year (the first parade took place in 1890) on new year's day! (except there's the 'never on a sunday' rule) i'm not a football fan at all but i do love to catch the parade - the floats are always really unique and all painstakingly handmade with tons of flowers, leaves, seeds, etc - plus usually a few celebs stop by! this year american idol runner-up katharine mcphee will be perched atop one of the floats (for lifesource water systems) and she'll be singing live! (no lip syncing for katharine) special thanks to popbytes reader devan who snapped these pictures of ms. mcphee in rehearsals for the big day! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!

On Monday, January 1, 2007 at 8 a.m. (PST), millions of spectators from around the world will celebrate the New Year with the 118th Rose Parade themed Our Good Nature. The Rose Parade will once again feature the beautiful pageantry and tradition of magnificent floral floats, high-stepping equestrians and spirited marching bands.

The event, benefiting the children and programs of GLASS, will take place from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. A special VIP Reception from 1:00 to 2:00 PM will precede the garden party.
“Our second annual Flowers, Food & Art garden party will bring together GLASS supporters in an elegant and private setting for a lovely afternoon of food, drink, music and art,” said GLASS Executive Director Terry DeCrescenzo. “We’re excited and appreciative that Connie Stevens has, once again, offered to host this unique event.”
The afternoon garden party will feature cocktails, champagne, and wine, as well as delicious, light food and desserts. Music will be provided by the Marcy Vaj Quartet. In addition to the silent auction, a live auction will take place at 3:00 PM. hey kids - gosh what a week it's been?!? i swear i am convinced that the weather keeps getting crazier & crazier - each storm seems bigger and badder than the last - i think the planet is gonna explode (global warming so has something to do with all this) - i don't know it just seems these acts of weather keep getting worse! and i don't think we will ever be able to control or tame mother nature...so check out these incredible pictures (thanks again a!) from orangeville IL as hurricane katrina approached - can you even believe this? it is shocking - this storm was so massive - it is so super scary - i only hope we don't see a worse storm than this - that would be so bad...popbytes out for now - much love and hope for all xxoo
* please note i believe these to be katrina in IL - however i cannot verify the source of these pics - they were forwarded by a good friend of mine (who can't verify source either) - but anyway you slice it - tis a massive storm...

from polly gordon direct - This time around I've decided to put together a
fundraising event on the USC Campus, open to both
students and non-students, on the evening of September
8 @ 7:30 pm in the Bovard Auditorium.
I couldn't think of a better way to honor and support
the lives of those living with AIDS/HIV than to have
an event that speaks openly about human sexuality.
What a better way to get the ball rolling than to put
my daddy and his friend, the legendary Nina Hartley,
on a stage and talk about sex? Though Daddy retired
from x-rated films before I was born, Nina has
remained in the limelight and in our circle of
friends.
With that in mind, I am presenting Backstage With the
Porn Stars: An Evening with Nina Hartley and Richard
Pacheco. Richard and Nina will each share intimate
stories of stardom in the X-rated world and they will
answer questions from the audience. A reception with
the stars will follow...
Tickets for $25 - all proceeds going to Aids Project
Los Angeles - will be available through the USC ticket
office by phone (213) 740-GOSC or online at

Change American Democracy With a Few Quick Phone Calls
The most important election of our lifetimes is just a few days away, and yet millions of Americans who are most affected by unjust government policies may not vote. Progressive non-partisan groups have registered over 2 million new low-income, minority, and young voters for the upcoming Presidential election. VoterCall.org offers you a fast and easy way to call these voters with a word of encouragement to go vote. Research shows that such calls increase turnout dramatically. www.votercall.org

A shocker. Terminal Five, which was recently referred to become the
'coolest art exhibit of the year' has been shut down by the Port
Authority yes, the same Port Authority that was a sponsor. Seems
there was a bit of vandalism on opening night and the Port decided,
rather late in the game, that the whole thing would be a security risk.
As you can imagine, curator Rachel Ward (who has worked the project for over a year - with no pay) and the artists are distraught. The PA, over the
years, has maintained a fairly unpopular image, which this latest move
will no doubt further burnish. You can help get Terminal Five open
again by calling the PA's perfectly named Ernesto Butcher,
212.435.7887, and urge him to reconsider.

BUT the virtual exhibit not closed:
You can still download Idle Time - Terminal Five's Official Screen Saver, an
original cinematic work by cool as hell (and a good popbytes friend!) net.artist Cathy Davies -
idle-time.org
The screen saver works on both Mac and PC, and can also be seen at the
Terminal Five gift shop (in super cool limted edition styling) once the exhibition reopens. And it will reopen - you heard it here!
