‘gone with the wind’ celebrates 70 years!

hey y’all! last weekend while my pal lisa was in town for thanksgiving – we both did something neither of us had done before – we watched all 233 minutes of the 1939 academy award-winning film gone with the wind (based on the 1936 novel by margaret mitchell) the ten time oscar winner just celebrated its 70th anniversary – with a special collector’s edition box release on blu-ray and DVD – packed full of bonus footage & extras along with other goodies (such as photo/production art book, a copy of the original program, and watercolor reproduction art prints – it’s a nicely packaged giftset)

i was a little worried we wouldn’t be able to make it through all four hours but i actually completely enjoyed the melodrama (the blu-ray picture quality and audio were beyond excellent – super crisp and colorful!) i was totally glued to all the trials & tribulations of southern belle scarlett o’hara (played by the gorgeous vivien leigh) played out against the backdrop of the civil war! of course we took a couple of breaks – by the end i was so glad to have watched it! although i think scarlett was a fool – she totally should have stuck with rhett butler (the oh so handsome clark gable) i really don’t know why girlfriend kept pining away for namby-pamby ashley wilkes (played by leslie howard) they simply don’t make movies quite like this anymore – the same can definitely be said about the wizard of oz – also released in 1939 – an spectacular year for film! with the holidays just around the corner – gone with the wind is the perfect gift for any movie lover! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

I watched Gone with the Wind for the first time 3 years ago… I found it a really engaging movie. But I can only watch it… Well, the second time I watched it, I didn’t finish the movie. Maybe I can join in on the celebration and finish watching the movie this time.

Can you believe that Margaret Mitchell wanted to name the main character Pansy O’Hara? I talk to people all the time about the importance of names and I think the same must be true for even fictional characters! Scarlett O’Hara is the perfect name for this feisty character. Thanks for your post!
