mail it with an ‘early TV memory’!

good evening everybody! although there are some great shows on TV these days (like true blood, gossip girl and mad men to name a few) i think most of us can agree – they certainly don’t make shows like they used to (the same could probably be said about movies) back during the golden age of television – spanning from the late 1940s through the mid 1960s – when the medium was still brand spankin’ new! to commemorate some of the all-time classic shows such as lassie, the twilight zone, howdy doody, i love lucy, burns & allen, the honeymooners (etc.) the USPS has issued a set of twenty stylish collectible stamps called TV early memories which were officially unveiled during a special ceremony at the academy of television arts and sciences over in north hollywood yesterday! i’m such a total geek for this type of thing – i’m definitely going to pick myself up a sheet ( … and toss it in the drawer with all my other collectible pop junk!) popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

Woof woof! What’s that Lassie? You’re on a stamp? But where’s Timmy? One of America’s most revered canines was among 20 television icons that came out of retirement today to be honored on the U.S. Postal Service’s Early TV Memories 44-cent commemorative First-Class stamp sheet. Lassie participated in the first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony that took place at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in North Hollywood.

“All of the classic television shows represented on these stamps represents the collective memory of a generation well deserving of entertainment,” said U.S. Postal Service Board of Governor member James C. Miller III in dedicating the stamps. “It was a generation that survived the Great Depression and fought World War II. They were pioneers — creative geniuses — who brought television shows of the 1950′s into our homes, breaking new ground to provide entertainment for everyone.”
