hey hey! the posters recently went up at NYC’s gerald schoenfeld theatre – touting the revival of arthur miller‘s award-winning 1947 play all my sons starring katie holmes, cutie patrick wilson, dianne wiest, and john lithgow which goes into previews on september 18th! when i was in high school ‘all my sons’ was one of the plays ‘the players’ put on (i always did backstage stuff) and i must say the material is excellent – i’d be curious to see the new production (directed by simon mcburney) just because of all the press surrounding ms. holmes (stepford wife of tom cruise) she’s certainly not a broadway box office draw on her talent alone (however i’d LOVE to see ms. wiest live on stage – she’s incredible – along with mr. lithgow of course)
katie (or shall we call her kate?) is currently rehearsing daily and has been spotted all over new york city with daughter suri cruise in tow (pictures from tonight are posted below) who is seriously so damn adorable – those pictures of suri playing with her dolly are simply precious (yet her parents need to get her off the bottle…) i wonder how long all my sons will run and more importantly – what are the theater critics going to say about katie’s broadway debut?!? (i have a sinking feeling she won’t be doing anymore broadway after this…) popbytes over & out for tonight…xxoo

as timely today as the day it was written, the play ‘all my sons’ was inspired by a true story about a successful businessman who knowingly sold the government defective airplane parts during world war II. a middle-class couple, joe and kate keller, have lost their older son in the war, but kate cannot give up believing that he is still alive. chris, their surviving son, falls in love with his brother’s fiancee ann and brings her home to tell them of their new relationship and their plans to marry. in the confrontations that follow, cracks begin to appear in everyone’ stories, lies are exposed, and a secret is revealed that could destroy them all…
