Mashup: Bring Frankenstein Back To My Street

Bring Frankenstein Back To My Street

FROM DJ PAUL V.
It’s that time of the year again, kiddies: HALLOWEEN! For the next three weeks, we’ll be featuring creepy ‘n kooky bootlegs to load you up like a candy overdose! We’re kicking it off with G4Gorilla, and his track from the annual Monster Mashup collection, Texas Chainsaw Mashacre. Personally, I can never get enough of Young Frankenstein dialogue! But throw in the groove from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, and some Evanescence bringing this monster to life, and you’ve got a dark yet fun and funky blend.

Ultimate 80′s Mashup!

Ultimate 80's Mashup

FROM DJ PAUL V.
Let’s face the fact: there is no greater decade for music than the 1980′s. You can mock it or joke about some of the fashion or all those primitive music videos, but it was the last great decade of truly original music. So when I find a megamashup like this one, my ears prick up immediately! DJ ADDiCT seamlessly blends together Corey Hart, Eurythmics, Journey, Bon Jovi, Dead Or Alive, Tears For Fears, Simple Minds, The Outfield, Bryan Adams, and Rick Springfield. Like, omigod, whew!!! But you’ll love it, totally!

Mashup: I’m Gonna Make You Sweat

I'm Gonna Make You Sweat

FROM DJ PAUL V.
One of my favorite grooves over the summer was Dedication To My Ex (Miss That) by Lloyd ft. Lil’ Wayne and Andre 3000. It’s got that classic soul hipswing vibe to it, and it was just begging to be combined with lots of stuff. And I got my wish! Mashup-Germany revs up this dance party with the Doobie Brothers, Labelle, Eminem, S Club 7, Usher, Franz Ferdinand, Snoop Dog and Donna Summer dedicating their vocals to the jam. And the results? Ich liebe es! And you’ll love it, too!

Freaky Kicks In The Dark

Freaky Kicks In The Dark

FROM DJ PAUL V.
By now, you’re probably sick of hearing Foster The People‘s Pumped Up Kicks, right? But there are so few mashes with one of the biggest singles of summer 2011! At least good ones – so that changes right here. But, the other good news about this week’s blend is that it features another fave newcomer of mine: Dev! Her Dancing In The Dark has been firmly planted in my brain the last few weeks. Mixmeister Marc Johnce also throws in Mayra Verónica, Salt ‘N Pepa, and Jessie & The Toy Boys on this dance floor winner.

You Wanted A Mashup

ToTom - You Wanted A Mashup

FROM DJ PAUL V.
This week’s blend is a little less of a mashup, and more of a rock ‘n roll and pop history lesson. The main meat of the track is LCD Soundsystem‘s You Wanted A Hit (as remixed by Soulwax). But the real prize are the guitar riffs and other sections added in to the mix: Blondie, Metallica, Franz Ferdinand, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder, The Police, Blur, The Beatles, David Bowie, White Stripes and more! French mash-maker ToTom (who’s been crafting bitchin’ bootlegs for ages), totally delivers a ten-minute hit!

Mashup of The Week: Cracked Obstacle

Cracked Obstacle

FROM DJ PAUL V.
Just for you, from the hot ‘n sweat environs of Los Angeles, it’s a dark and haunting mashup of epic proportions. It’s pretty rare to hear blends featuring Interpol, let alone The XX. Well, this one marries both like a cinematic masterpiece. Greece’s Bynar places the vocals of Interpol’s Obstacle 1 atop a remix of The XX’s Intro, with bits of The Freestylers and Arctic Monkeys. And the result has an alluring yet buzzing, dubstep-lite wobble. Even if you don’t know the sources used here, sonic bliss awaits.

Crazy Time To Relax

Crazy Time To Relax

FROM DJ PAUL V.
For the last mashup of Summer 2011, we take you to the disco. And, we serve up the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s in one rump-shaking, big gulp. Frankie Goes To Hollywood might have never hit Studio 54 back in the day, but they do here. Mighty Mike says Relax (don’t do it), then Seal lets you know the whole thing is Crazy. But also under the neon lights, Lenny Kravitz unleashes a hot guitar solo. And this menage a trois are all having some Good Times, courtesy of Chic. Hit me with your laser beams!

So, Did Ya Think About It?

So, Did Ya Think About It?

FROM DJ PAUL V.
If ya love my mashup, and ya think it’s sexy, c’mon sugar let me know? There once was a time when Rod Stewart ruled the pop charts, and hopped on the disco gravy-train too, back in 1978. Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? has oftimes been maligned as embarassing fluff in the rocker’s career, but just try getting the hook out’cha head! Now, it’s a double-whammy earworm, as Mad Mix Mustang decided to pair it with Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand‘s still fresh ‘n funky Let Me Think About It (a dance chart topper 30 years after Rod, in 2008). There’s something kind of odd – but oh so cool – going on here.

Where Dem Moves At, Judas?

Where Dem Moves At, Judas?

FROM DJ PAUL V.
Doesn’t it feel like Lady Gaga dropped Judas, like, centuries ago? I LOVE the new single Yoü and I (the true smash from her album Born This Way), but I’m feeling like a converted disciple with this new mashup. But Gaga has help here, namely David Guetta, Ke$ha, and Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera. Collaborators Mixmstr Stel and DJ Tripp put together a dancefloor banger that works like charm, and also exposes how similar lots of pop music sounds these days. Oh, and we dedicate this mash to the super sexy Adam Levine, who showed his support for LGBTQ rights by chatting about his gay brother to OUT magazine.

Gucci Gucci Girl Power

Gucci Gucci Girl Power

FROM DJ PAUL V.
This week, we’re gonna show some love to the ladies! And we cover a few decades of female fierceness in the process. SF’s Adrian & Mysterious D – the unstoppable duo who created the Bootie club franchise – just dropped this on the Bootie Blog, and it had me doing cartwheels in my pajamas this morning! Check this: It features Oakland upstart rapper Kreayshawn on the mic, bouncing around to Toni Basil, Le Tigre, The Ting Tings, The Go-Go’s, and 90′s riot grrrls, The Trashwomen – whose guitarist is actually Kreayshawn’s mother! And I dedicate this mashup to The Go-Go’s, who just got their long-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame today! You go, girls!
