goodbye idol hopeful syesha mercado

hey kids! i’m so sorry i didn’t get to my normal wednesday evening american idol post – since i was at the kate nash concert last night there just wasn’t enough time – anyways as expected syesha mercado (the last lady standing) was given the boot last night (who really started to grow on me over the past few weeks) leaving us with our final two idol contenders – david cook & david archuleta (pictured below standing together) i swear this has been one of the worst seasons of idol – i do like mr. cook a lot but there have been past seasons that i was way more into – i’m totally ready for all the idol hoopla to come to an end! the good folks over at AOL television asked me to make a prediction as to who would most likely win this season along with a few other bloggers which you can check out here – i will be voting like mad for rocker david cook to win although i have a sinking feeling little ‘awww shucks’ boy david archuleta will walk off with this year’s title :( next week i’ll be in boston on business for a few days so i’ll be getting my vote on from the east coast – i’m excited to get out of town although i always get stressed over dealing w/ popbytes while on the road – posting will of course carry on – maybe just a little lighter than normal! popbytes over & out for now…xxoo

When Ryan Seacrest mentioned that David Cook did not even want to audition for the show at first, I almost died of a heart attack.
During the May 14 results night, it was revealed that DC was only at the auditions to cheer his brother Andrew on (he was the one trying out for the show). And it turned out that while those blasted producers were interviewing Andrew their cameras turned to the bro, and encouraged him to try out instead. How much would I have bet that upon closer inspection of Andrew Cook’s application, those Lythgoe dogs saw that the auditioner was in fact the brother of a never-been band (“never-been” instead of “has-been) called Analog Heart.
He was planted on the show. It’s as simple as that. Although for a different reason, DC’s stay in the show is reminiscent of last year’s Sanjaya fiasco. SM was planted on the show even though he was initially eliminated so that he and his sister would be competing together Hollywood round (this was revealed by Blake Lewis in a radio interview). Blake recalls the time when he witnessed some of his clossest buddies in the show eliminated before Sanjaya, and every fellow contestant breathed a sigh of relief when that crazy-haired guy was eliminated. Well, at least Sanjaya and his sister came to audition for the show in the first place, unlike DC.
And so, DC gave the judges that mediocre “Living on a Prayer” audition that simon had the guts of calling “a little bit worthy”.
Worthy of what? Worthy of making it through Hollywood week when more deserving contestants like that single dad or that girl who had a seriously afflicted child whose parent’s success in the industry would have been a promise of a better life didn’t make it? Worthy of making it to the Top 24 when guys like that farm boy or Josiah Lemming were taking that shot to stardom and narrowly missed it? Worthy of making it to the finale when more versatile and original singers like Ramiele or Michael or Carly or Syesha were eliminated?
Talking about DC’s talent, he really can sing, and is a real rocker. But his style was not original (we’ve heard that style from DC’s gods Nickleback and Daughtry), making his previous album “Analog Heart” flunk when it was released. Out of sheer curiosity I listened to his ten-track cd, and if not because of the pauses in between the songs, I would have thought that it was one continuous, monotonous song. Not the best preview of a future album of a potential AI winner. He’s good a making cover songs and “Cooking” them, but when he releases an original, the song can’t help to be bland. That’s a fact.
Cook didn’t want to be in the show in the first place. And now he did get in thanks to the freaking producers who care less about talent, versatility and absolute “worthiness” and focused more on entertainment value. That explains why cook took everything about the show less seriously than the others, even showing his egotistic side with his smug face. And now he’s in the finale, and has a great chance of winning the show he did not even watch in the past (he said that in his interview at the AI website; he didn’t have a favorite past AI moment because he didn’t watch it).
David Cook winning the biggest talent show in the planet is a great mockery of those undiscovered, aspiring singers who had guts of lining up on endless queues for that one shot to superstardom.
In less than a week’s time, a new Idol will be crowned. I sure am voting for David Archuleta. It’s not just a vote for the most promising young contestant on the show since Jordin Sparks, but also a vote to spite those freaking producers responsible for the biggest contestant plant in AI history.
