Their current single was just in an iPod commercial, but their debut track is what really hooked me. It's called That's Not My Name - and LA's Illuminoids decided to match them with some old-school 60's pop, Peaches + Tone Loc, and even a little bit of drag legend Divine! good evening! of course i can't resist doing a post about one of my favorite ladies - ms. liza minnelli who performed last night (although she had visa drama upon entering the UK) at london's coliseum (read a kind review) looking great (heck - what can you really say about a lady who paints her eyebrows on? she does what she can...) at age 62 she's been through the ringer over the years - battling personal demons including drugs, alcohol, weight, and has already had two hip replacements (not to mention her disastrous 4th marriage to fug david gest - she's never been lucky in love)
yet she still manages to pull herself together - of course she's a bit messy these days but you have to give liza plenty of points for effort & her exuberant spirit! i've never seen her live - that would be the ultimate even if she isn't what she used to be (her oscar-winning performance as 'sally bowles' (w/ her signature green fingernails) in 1972's cabaret is ranked my top female performance of all-time) i just love her to pieces - along with her mom judy garland - may she rest in peace (yes i know it's all so very stereotypical 'gay' but i simply cannot pass up liza or judy!)

hey y'all! earlier today i came across the brand new trailer for australia - the latest 'outback epic' film from one of my favorite directors - aussie baz luhrmann (strictly ballroom, romeo + juliet, moulin rouge! - all collectively known as 'the red curtain trilogy') it stars fellow aussies nicole kidman and hottie hugh jackman - based on the short trailer below - i can't freakin' wait! it looks like totally my type of film - sweepingly grand and romantic (like i loved ms. kidman's 1992 film far and away with her ex-hubby tom cruise and don't even get me started on the english patient or atonement) although unfortunately we'll have to wait until november 14th for the film's worldwide release :( i hope each of you are having a splendid weekend - right now mine is kind of sucking but that's another whole long story - oh good times! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo

hey hey! oh i'm having one of those lazy days where you don't do much but that's totally ok (right?) i seriously needed to chill it out - i just finished watching the most amazing movie called the diving bell and the butterfly (watch the trailer) which i had been meaning to watch for quite awhile now - it's based on the book by former french elle magazine editor-in-chief jean-dominique bauby who at age 43 become paralyzed after having a massive stroke and was actually able to 'write' his book by blinking when the correct letter was reached by a 'translator' slowly repeating the alphabet over & over again (sadly mr. bauby died ten days after the publication of the book in 1997) it might sound a little on the depressing side but it was really uplifting - total triumph of the human spirit - plus the style of the award-winning film (directed by julian schnabel) was incredibly stunning and extremely well done - i can't recommend it enough - i never have much time to read but after seeing the film i simply must read the book!
as for last night i caught up on desperate housewives by watching the two-hour season finale that had me on the edge of my seat - all the secrets concerning dana delany's character 'katherine' came spilling out - i think she has been a great addition to wisteria lane - i hope she sticks around for the 5th season! the last few minutes of the show were totally unexpected - a flash forward sequence five years into the future - checking up on each of the ladies ('susan' played by teri hatcher has a new man and it's not 'mike'...) except one character was oddly absent from the entire show - 'edie' played by nicolette sheridan - she better be back next season too! as for marcia cross who plays the ultimate perfectionist 'bree' was spotted yesterday leaving ken paves' salon sporting a completely new style which i'm not feeling at all - i much prefer her longer red straight locks - hopefully this look won't be sticking around too long!
earlier today i was supposed to see indiana jones but the screening on the paramount lot was canceled so i'll probably try and see it sometime this weekend - i need to see it now or i'll miss it because next weekend is all about sex and the city! popbytes over & out for tonight...xxoo

oh my goodness! i just landed here in los angeles - i raced home as fast as i could to catch the big finale of american idol - and i'm THRILLED that my favorite david cook won! i was totally convinced little david archuleta was going to win - he's a great singer but i find him to be completely boring - mr. cook for sure has an edge over him - and he managed to pull out the win in the end (i didn't even get to vote last night - i planned to vote for david cook like crazy but i just couldn't get to it) one of the best parts of the evening was george michael's stirring performance of praying for time (which moved paula adbul to tears of course) i so need to see him in concert when he swings by southern california! as for the final song of the evening the time of my life - i thought mr. cook did a superb job with it but overall i'm not so crazy about the song - have a listen over at popeater where the song just premiered!

oh my word - this is my second completely random celebrity sighting in boston (the first wasadam levine from maroon 5) i was having a light lunch at cafeteria on newbury street while on break from the design conference - and this tall woman walks in and i'm thinking to myself she kind of looks like brazilian supermodel gisele bündchen - so i turn to my pal joey and i was like 'she totally looks like gisele' - then joey quickly exclaimed 'it is gisele!' she sat down right next to us along w/ her girlfriend (there was no sign of her footballer boyfriend tom brady) we were almost done with lunch so as we left - i politely asked her to take a picture with me - of course i mentioned popbytes and left her my card - although she was semi-reluctant at first she quickly folded and tossed up the peace sign as joey snapped our picture (neither one of us had our real camera but the cellphone picture below came out fairly decent) i'm not sure why she's in boston but i heard her say she just got here - she was quite gorgeous in person (wearing minimal makeup) but girlfriend wanted to make sure the picture came out ok - gisele mentioned the lighting in the restaurant wasn't the best but i think she looks pretty freakin' hot under any lighting - oh this little sighting totally made my day! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo

good evening! i had such a long day today but overall things went great - except for the fact while walking around boston this evening i felt like i needed earmuffs - my ears were so cold plus it was really windy - it's a beautiful quaint city yet i think i'd rather come in the summertime - since living in los angeles i've been totally spoiled by all the warm weather and sunshine...speaking of LA just today a new promo for 90210 hit the web for the upcoming fall show (airing on the CW) which is a spin-off of sorts from the hugely popular aaron spelling created teen serial drama beverly hills 90210 (that show ran from 1990-2000...i had absolutely no clue it ran for ten years!) i'll admit i loved the show back in the day - something about the whole thing just worked - the casting - all the backstage drama with shannen doherty etc. - i seriously don't know what to think about the new version - of course i'll give it a chance but based on the promo below - i'm not feeling it yet however i'm thrilled to see annalynne mccord as part of the cast - she played the highly naughty & very sexy eden on nip/tuck - total smart casting choice! (bonus pics of ms. mccord at the recent CW upfronts held in NYC on may 13th are posted below)

UPDATE hey hey! i just got back a little while ago from the whole 'hills' finale shindig which was semi-fun - all those events tend to be a little on the tiring side but it's always fun to run into people you know (hello jennifer from buzznet) and meeting vera from i'm not obsessed was a total highlight of the evening - she's so damn funny - we totally got along great - i know if she lived closer we would be best of friends! as far as red carpet interaction - the person i chatted with the most was stephanie pratt - sister of spencer (absent this evening along w/ girlfriend heidi montag) she was actually really nice and i asked her about the nickname she-pratt which she didn't like at first but after i explained how i ended up really liking her character (way more than lo - who i basically can't stand) she told me that i'm allowed to call her 'she-pratt' - i'll upload the video i shot in the next few days!

good morning everyone! this week's STAR magazine is featuring a pregnant angelina jolie front and center and claims she's having twin girls in july - which would bring the jolie-pitt kid count up to six! oh my gosh! kelly osbourne must have been partying it up hardcore earlier tonight at mahiki nightclub (in london) where she had to be escorted out after not being able to stand up straight (that's usually a tell-tale sign to call it a night) upon arriving home via a cab (smart move) she almost fell out of the taxi - stumbled across the street - then walked right into a wall! once she found the actual front door to her place kelly fumbled with the numeric buzzer lock and finally made her way inside - how embarrassing to have that all captured by the paparazzi (thankfully she wasn't with her pal amy winehouse who would have upped the mess factor tenfold) hopefully she was just getting her drink on - we all know she has battled drug addiction in the past and has been claiming sobriety for a while now - she is going to totally wake up in the morning with a fuzzy memory of what happened (along with one hell of a hangover headache) all of a sudden kelly will realize she walked into a wall (possibly prompted by all of the photographic evidence - shots to be added to the osbourne family scrapbook - gosh i miss their reality show) i bet ms. osbourne will be laying low for a bit after this messy evening! popbytes over & out for tonight...xxoo
oh i seriously miss seeing juliette lewis up on the silver screen - i'm sure some of you must agree with me?
