'Long Train Running' is a funky classic rock hit for sure, and on the other end of the spectrum is UK newcomer Duffy (who I adore!) She's already blowing up in England and just now seeing her buzz hit the states in a big way. Her 'Mercy' is a fabulous slice of retro boogaloo. good evening boys & girls! i'll admit i was slightly worried about madonna's new album not living up to my high expectations but i'm extremely happy to report that hard candy is excellent (i've totally tossed mariah carey's new album E=MC2 aside for the moment - i needed a break from mimi anyways) however i don't think madge's latest outing tops her last album confessions on a dance floor but it's really solid (tracks 1-8 are awesome and 9-12 are decent) and thankfully way more dancey than i thought it was going to be! you've probably heard by now that although the album doesn't release until april 29th - the tracks started leaking out over the weekend and i was able to download the entire thing earlier this afternoon (it certainly wasn't very hard to find at all...) however i've already pre-ordered the album on itunes and of course i'll also be picking up the special edition version!
two tracks that immediately stand out are she's not me & incredible - both are over six minutes long (and produced by pharrell williams) they definitely take you on a journey - getting twisted up into sonic urban/dance landscapes that both tip their hats to madonna's early work! i'm also digging on give it 2 me which will be the second single and again was produced by mr. williams (the timbaland produced tracks are rockin' too (except dance 2night which is probably my least favorite off the album) but i think overall pharrell did an amazing job) madonna (who turns 50 in august!) better get her tour on again - gosh i must see her play live again! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!

ms. britney spears was caught being good again (when i was in elementary school they had this dumb award given out to kids 'caught being good' - it never quite lived up to the hype the teachers gave it) instead of making drama (or denting fenders) brit was back (along w/ a big ass bronze bag) at a recording studio tonight (specifically glenwood place studios over in burbank) she's probably just messing around and getting used to being back in 'the zone'...she's also been at the gym recently and supposedly bally total fitness wants to hire her as their spokesperson although i think it might be a little soon for that - it wasn't all that long ago that she was a total mess and she still doesn't seem 100% (her hair/weave needs major help) but ms. spears has certainly come a long way! (yet nobody should be depending on her at the moment except for money)
i'm sure everyone will agree that a big part of her recovery can be credited to her dad jamie spears who really took control of his daughter's crazy ass situation! if i were advising her i'd suggest doing an all out promotional tour for her album blackout (which you all know i totally love and there's a few more tracks begging to be singles) she barely did anything (no letterman, leno, or anyone else for that matter) when the album was released since she was so damn out of it - i think it'd be brit's best focal point - not doing TV guest appearances, endorsing gyms, being a dance teacher, or designing t-shirts...it's time to bring back the pop star we all (secretly) loved at one time or another! hey everyone! earlier this afternoon my dear pal victoria hit me up on instant messenger with blogworthy news - UK songbird lily allen posted two new demo tracks on her myspace! i fell head over heels for her debut album alright, still - which ms. victoria also clued me in on...she just needs to get her ass to los angeles so we can paint the town red and gush over ms. allen in person! especially since i'm totally digging both tracks - i don't know & i could say - listen to the streams or you can download them over on fansite oh lily! i'm still not super comfortable with her being a blonde - but it's growing on me just a little - she reminds me of debbie harry (from her blondie days) a bit! it certainly has been a roller coaster of drama for ms. allen over the past few months - yet she seems to be right on track at the moment (i wish the same could be said about her sometime rival amy winehouse) i can't wait for her second album! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!

†FROM DJ PAUL V. One of my favorite records from 2007 was 'I Created Disco' from the UK's Calvin Harris. The dude is only like 24 years old, and while he didn't create disco, he's already producing big names like Kylie Minogue and remixing hipsters like The Ting Tings and CSS. His Acceptable In The 80's jam is just about the bounciest slice of electropop fun you'll hear, and since I had three tracks that mashed it up, I decided to combo them up into my own megamix. It features a solo Kelly Rowland plus Destiny's Child, and some British dude named Marvin The Martian, who did his own freestyle over the track (which caught some buzz on the UK charts). Calvin plays in Los Angeles next week and at Coachella on April 26th.
i'm sure some of you must get sick of courtney love but i never grow tired of her - i could post on her everyday if i had to! good evening y'all! below is the latest cover of national enquirer featuring an entire article on hollywood's deadliest diets - which can often have dire consequences like heart attacks, kidney failure, diabetes, and strokes - not good times! thankfully i've never had to go on a diet (in fact people always tell me to eat up but i like being skinny and i've always been this way - so whatever) but i can imagine losing weight can be a difficult thing to deal with - i'm not overly educated on all the ins & outs of dieting but it seems to me that a good diet consists of eating properly with the right foods and small portions, plus exercise! good evening! tori spelling is just like her character donna martin to me - totally your annoying friend from back in high school that you genuinely liked (and felt bad for at moments...) but sometimes you would simply have to avoid them at all costs - small doses worked out best! since her 90210 days i've always enjoyed all of her little pet projects & acting stints (i loved her in the house of yes and that show so notorious was really fun) tori somehow manages keep herself busy most of the time (she even has a book out) let's not forget she didn't get all of her daddy aaron spelling's money yet girlfriend seems to work it all out!

hey hey! new mom jennifer lopez took a little alone time tonight with her hubby marc anthony at NYC's waverly inn (while the babies were under lockdown with fort knox security) for just having twins like nine weeks ago (february 22nd) she looks quite refreshed & relaxed and it appears she lost most of her baby weight! yet i'm not crazy about that color on her - it makes her look older and a tad boring (although i'm not a huge fan of his - he doesn't look too bad actually - mr. anthony should always keep those sunglasses on...) over the weekend i tried to watch el cantante but i just couldn't make it through the whole thing - once i take a break from watching a movie - 99% of the time i don't finish it - there's simply too much other stuff to watch to start back pedaling! now that ms. lopez has the baby thing under her belt i'm curious to see what her next move will be - probably not another movie with marc! some things never change - which can sometimes be a good thing - case in point tonight is björk - the oddball icelandic singer - who is still bizarre yet brilliant & original as always! i knew some kind of trouble was waiting around the corner for britney spears - with her track record something slightly messy was simply bound to happen eventually! apparently ms. spears wanted to go on a small joyride earlier this evening and accidentally bumped the car in front of her (while on the 101 in her white mercedes) that car in turn hit the next car in line - everyone is ok (traffic was heavy and moving at a reported speed of just 20mph) all three cars were questioned by police at a nearby gas station (also a perfect place for britney to hit the bathroom!) but no one got a ticket (rumors say britney was given a breathalyzer test!) it all sounds pretty minor to me but britney seemed a bit freaked out (and was clutching a pack of marlboro reds - she should at least try to downgrade to ultra lights and then quit altogether like i need to do) of course she let her bodyguard take over the wheel for the rest of her mini outing! britney totally needs to freshen up on her driving skills before heading out again - thankfully tonight no one was injured! popbytes over & out for tonight...xxoo!

oh my gosh! shocker elimination tonight on american idol! i was actually over at the popsugar / techcrunch party here in hollywood (which was a great time plus i ran into a number of people who i've been wanting to meet) when i heard the shocking news about hottie aussie rocker michael johns unfairly getting the boot! good evening! oh it has been a heck of a day - i can't deal! yesterday the engine light came on in my car so i immediately took it into the shop and now it turns out 'something' is wrong with my transmission (probably the worst case scenario) it's getting fixed right now but gosh i hate dealing with car drama - i can't even change a tire! that's one great thing about NYC - no need to have a car but unfortunately you really can't get away with not having a car here in sunny los angeles! i'm hoping once it's fixed that my car will hold out for at least a few more years - i just finished paying it off and i don't want to have another monthly car payment anytime soon! (although i'd kill to pick up a porsche but that's not going to happen - at least not right now!)

good evening! i was chatting with my blog buddy nathaniel from the lovely film experience and he sent me this link about this oh so exciting project involving my dear tori amos! this summer there's a book coming out called comic book tattoo (hardcover, thick paper stock, 12"x12") a 500 page collaboration featuring a bunch of highly respected comic book artists - each working on an individual story inspired by the songs of ms. amos - what a freakin' neat idea! (there's a couple of awesome illustrations below - there'll be over fifty stories in total!) plus apparently tori has been quite involved in the project to make sure all of her 'girls' are treated with the respect they totally deserve! you can read a lot more about the whole thing over on comic book resources - oh i seriously can't wait to get myself a copy - it will be an amazing collectible for all fans of tori! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
