hey hey! today i actually made it to the movies (a perfect idea since it was so damn cloudy out today) i took my dear mom (who also lovingly checks for any mistakes here on popbytes) to see the other boleyn girl over at arclight cinemas (the best local movie theater around) although i already knew the basic story of king henry viii and the twisted sister drama that went down between mary & anne boleyn which made a few heads roll and produced a future queen of england named elizabeth! the film is based on the best-selling novel by philippa gregory (which i didn't get to read - i need to make book time since i haven't read a novel in a longtime...shame on me!) although my eyelids grew a little heavy in the beginning of the film - i managed to perk up once the real drama started to kick in - i thought both scarlett johansson and natalie portman did an excellent job of playing the boleyn girls (it would be hilariously bad if say the simpson sisters starred in it) plus i adore the guy who played their brother cutie pie jim sturgess (he also starred in across the universe) and there's also hottie eric bana - another nice dose of eye candy! overall i enjoyed the film - plus it totally got me pumped for the second season of the tudors starring jonathan rhys-meyers as the beheading happy king which premieres on showtime on sunday march 30th! a throwback to old time historical scandal and drama is quite refreshing from today's usual drama inducing suspects! popbytes over & out for tonight...xxoo!
Oh noes, though. I have heard a lot of scary stuff about the casual way that it treats incest, not to mention the whole "you're 13! go marry this guy four times your age and make some kids!" thing that they did back then... it seems kind of like they made it pretty but didn't think about the stuff that shouldn't be "pretty."

The trailer for this movie had me in convulsions. As a Tudor scholar for almost a decade, I'm appalled at how this story and movie butchered what was already a sensational story and turned it into a complete mess. I don't think Gregory arsed herself to research a darned thing (for example, Henry met Mary first, as Anne was in France as lady in waiting to Queen Claude). I'm sure if I went to this movie, I'd probably end up in cardiac arrest from all the mistakes, or I'd be killed by theater patrons within the first 5 minutes from going "WRONG...OMG... THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN LIKE THAT!!!".
As far as "The Tudors" on Showtime *cringes*....um, I don't even wanna GO there... there's a laundry list of innaccuracies in that, too.
To see ones *just in the trailer*, click the link and it goes to my MySpace blog. I know if I saw the movie, I'd lose about 2 hours of my life.
Hopefully, this movie encourages people to pick up a biography about Henry VIII or Anne Boleyn and learn the REAL story, and not some tripe writer's butchery of it.
Sad, I've had people *argue* with me on some points of Tudor history based on what they've seen in this movie and The Tudors... and I wonder, who is more credible... the person who saw an adapation/butchery made for entertaining, or the person who reads peer-reviewed textbooks and biographies?
LOL sorry for the rant, but seeing as this is my area of scholarship, and it is already a very dramatic and entertaining story, I felt there was no need for this kind of raping of it and then slapping it as "historic" :-)
