good morning! this past friday the always lovely tori amos gave us more insight to one of her invented characters named clyde who appears on her upcoming albumamerican doll posse...
clyde, who draws from persephone, wears her emotional wounds on her sleeve, but remains idealistic. she is looking at the effects of not being a whole person. she is trying to figure out what she believes in and she is dealing with having been disappointed in her life.
each week she'll be outing each of the characters (building up to the album's release on may 1st) plus with this first introduction of 'clyde' (who actually has her own blog) we were also given a listen to a full track called bouncing off clouds which is one the songs performed by the character of 'clyde' - i know it all sounds a bit crazy but that's ms. amos for 'ya - and us toriphiles wouldn't have it any other way! (she's a total genius) the track is simply gorgeous and i just had to share it for this week's 'monday .mp3' - although there isn't an .mp3 file there are three flavors of streams below! popbytes over & out for now!
PS make sure to read what ms. amos had to say about britney spears!

is there a lone lost-and-found
make it easy
make this easy
it's not as heavy as it seems
wrapped in metal
wrapped in ivy
painted in mint ice cream
we could bouncing off the top of this cloud
(i've put on my silver)
bouncing off the top of this cloud
failure to respond worked
i talked but did you listen
bouncing off the top of this cloud
(i've put on my silver)
ooh but would you say has it come to this
(i've put on my silver)
bouncing off the top of this cloud
well you can stare all day at the sky
but that won't bring him back
that won't bring him back
you say you're waiting on fate
but i think we decide
i think we decide
where we take our lives
make it easy
easy
easy
we could make this easy
easy love
easy
we could make this easy
make this easy
it's not as heavy as it seems

make this easy
it's not as heavy as it seems
wrapped in metal
wrapped in ivy
big umbrellas smiling
we could bouncing off the top of this cloud

After hearing "Big Wheel", "Teenage Hustling", and "Bouncing off Clouds", I Favored Teenage hustling as what I was hoping to hear as Tori's first single. My brothers love bands like Disturbed, Stained, POD, Mudvaine, etc. I always felt they were missing out on my "girlie music" (as they called it). The Plugged '98 tour came, along with the song "Spark", surprisingly Sergio said "...I could get jiggy to this shit..!". That said a lot. John had surprised me in the "Pele" days by fancying "Blood Roses", he affectionantly called "..Flood Roses.." and would sing along with me. I envisioned a video played on Fuse on the scale of all the boy groups like Panic at the Disco and that Black Parade group thing that's so in right now with the artistry of an Amy Lee video and everyone jamming to it!!! Tori's voice can be harsh and severe when she gets sharp (like the black keys to the right) as she does in Teenage Hustling. She does her country twang like in the Springtime of His Vodoo (or Big Wheel). But there's a sweetness found in her voice when it resonates and she anonciates and her voice is "easy" like a mother's lullaby. Back to "Baltimore" and Flying Dutchman and the rounds she has in her songs like "SpaceDog" (the live performances). That echo of resonance like "..love let me breathe, breathe you in, 'til there is only you, union...". Bouncing Off Clouds has that quality.
