good afternoon! the awards are in at the 63rd venice film festival – this year the golden lion went to china’s sanxia haoren (still life) while ben affleck (things are looking up for him) nabbed best actor for his turn in hollywoodland (which just opened here) and helen mirren for the queen (opening the ny film festival on sept 29th) all three movies sound amazing – especially ‘the queen’ which is about queen elizabeth II in the week following the death of princess diana…ok so i just went and watched the trailer – it gave me chills – no wonder mirren won! (besides the fact she is always brilliant) plus it’s directed by stephen frears! gosh i can’t wait to catch that one! check out the full list of awards – ‘queen’ also took best script! i might go try and catch ‘hollywoodland’ this weekend (read nathaniel’s review…maybe i should skip) any film dealing with old-time hollywood scandals & mystery – popbytes is always up for – like i can’t wait for the black dahlia (opening next friday) anyways i hope y’all are having a good weekend so far…
