    Another rave DVD review of “The Comeback” from Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly
    http://www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary/0,6115,1219879_21|116770||0_0_,00.html
    KEN TUCKER applauds freshly minted Emmy nominee Lisa Kudrow and her short-lived but sassy reality-show satire The Comeback
    Lisa Kudrow made 13 episodes of The Comeback before HBO opted not to renew it. The unlucky number is now on DVD to be rediscovered and properly celebrated as an endlessly imaginative, funny, and frequently moving TV series. Kudrow gives a fearless performance as the washed-up sitcom actor Valerie Cherish. We’ve seen portraits of stars on the skids for decades, but this one doesn’t piggyback onto the current reality-show trend—it uses it to bring greater pathos to Valerie’s double shot of humiliation: a drab supporting role in a bad sitcom, being filmed by a reality team that betrays her at every opportunity. This richly layered satire manages to critique everything from lazy writing (via its own energetic scripts) to the strains on Hollywood marriages (via Valerie’s own). The DVD features six shrewdly observed episode commentaries by co-creators Kudrow and Sex and the City’s Michael Patrick King, including one done by Kudrow in character as Valerie: ”It’s tricky when they start interfering with art,” she says. Indeed. There’s also a sparkling extra with Valerie, exasperated after just taping a Dancing With the Stars segment, her eyelids heavy with ridiculous green sequins. ”Lisa Rinna told me that I’d have fun. Didn’t!”
