dixie chicks go the long way around

i LOVE those dixie chicks! the gal’s long awaited 4th album is due to hit stores this coming tuesday (may 23rd) after listening to an advanced copy of taking the long way i was reminded of how much i missed them after they basically went into hiding…from the people who were bulldozing and stomping their last album because of some truthful statements lead singer natalie maines made about bush at a concert in the UK…the girls even received death threats – so not good times! thinking back on that 2003 incident it seemed so ridiculous at the time…

now thinking about it seems even more ludicrous! were children really smashing CDs while being egged on by their idiotic parents? those people were (probably still are today) absolutely crazy & insanse! who really has the time to be stomping on CDs and making scary threats?!? what a waste of time & energy! reminds me of that saying ‘idle hands are the devil’s tools’ anyways i am really happy the chicks are back – the first single not ready to make nice definitely speaks to the people who were threatening their lives…just read some of the lyrics and then have a listen to one of my fave tracks i selected for your listening pleasure…popbytes over & out for now – xxoo!

Not Ready to Make Nice

I made by bed, and I sleep like a baby,

With no regrets and I don’t mind saying,

It’s a sad sad story

That a mother will teach her daughter

that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.

And how in the world

Can the words that I said

Send somebody so over the edge

That they’d write me a letter

Saying that I better shut up and sing

Or my life will be over…

With TAKING THE LONG WAY, one of the most anticipated albums in recent years, the Dixie Chicks are putting themselves out there like never before. For the first time, every one of the disc’s fourteen songs are co-written by the Chicks themselves, exploring themes both deeply private and resoundingly political. Collaborating with legendary producer Rick Rubin (who has worked with everyone from Johnny Cash to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, from Run DMC to Neil Diamond), the biggest-selling female band in history has truly pushed themselves to new heights both as writers and as performers.

“Everything felt more personal this time,” says Natalie Maines. “I go back to songs we’ve done in the past and there’s just more maturity, depth, intelligence on these. They just feel more grown-up.”

Yay, Dixie Chicks rule. As a non-American, I was dumbfounded by the backlash they faced. You’d think they ripped up a picture of the Pope or something….

  • Tilly

Every Action gets a reaction. You would think they would just bloody well “entertain” and keep their political opinions to themselves but I can see from this mornings news their mouths are still in motion and their brains are out of gear…lol
No one should condone death threats but I think the numbers they are hitting on the charts speak should send the message they seem to not be ‘getting’…
Hope you like that small fan base chicks because that is all you are going to have by the time y’all finish your ranting…..
Your not ready to play nice and move on and it looks like all the Americans you pissed of while insulting the President of the United States in some foreign country are not either…
Have fun crying to Barbara Walters about being “blacklisted”…lol

  • http://fadedyouth.blogspot.com Arasto

Umm…Tilly, I am not sure what music you listen to, but music has traditionally been political. Music is a form of art and art reflects society. So when you say say keep their opinions out of their songs, what do you want them to sing about? Something they don’t feel inside? Something that isn’t organic to them? You sound like a very close-minded person. Your last comment about crying to Barbara Walters shows that you are a hateful person whose politics gets in the way of your better judgment.

  • Tilly

No the low record sales and no airplay is going to show them they let their mouth overload their ass….
They can sing about their political beliefs like Neil Young and they can get up and talk about what they think and they can take it like a man when their record does not leave the shelf…
Yea I am just hateful as hell because they stated their opinion and then where shocked, mad and a bunch of cry babys because they actually had to take responsibility for what they said and paid with their career and pocket books…
Hate it for them but hey they have you to buy their cd’s. I hope you can buy quite a few copies because Curley, Larry & Mo are going to need it….lmfao

Tilly, get well soon. You are bordering on sounding Satanic. I can almost hear a demonic laughter when you ‘lmfao.’ Life is short — don’t waste your time criticising people who speak their minds. Otherwise, move to Burma and you will be in heaven.

I’d love to know why it is that when progressive celebrities speak out, they get shouted down by conservative media to “shut up and sing”, but when Republinuts speak out, they get elected governor. I mean, those people elected Sonny Bono for god’s sakes! They elected Gopher from “The Love Boat”! Maybe Natalie should run for mayor somewhere. At least she has talent, which is more than we can say for Schwarzenegger.

  • Tilly

I am speaking my mind and it seems you are waisting your time “criticising”. I guess for you leftist it is do as I say not as I do…
If I am as satanic as you say I am you should be very afraid…lmfao
Almost as much as their record company exects are on their label after they saw that charming interview this morning on GMA…
I am sure the razor blades are being passed around the executive office as I type this…lmfao

Tilly, get well soon. You have been hurt. And I hope you heal. One day.

As a non-American I think that they have every right to speak out against whom they please, but they must understand that consumers have the same freedoms…if a person doesn’t want to buy their CDs anymore because they don’t agree with them politically, the artist needs to understand that just as they have a choice to speak out, the consumer will in turn, speak out in the only way possible, through purchasing power….
plus, didn’t this happen more than a year ago? are they still trying to suck as much publicity out of this stunt as possible?

  • http://fadedyouth.blogspot.com Arasto

Tilly, I JUST bought their new CD about 30 minutes ago. This is the first CD I have bought in years. And I can only say that your hatred and ignorance of the importance of civil freedoms inpsired me. Anyone else reading this: go spend 12 bucks and pick up their CD. Suck it, Tilly!

  • Robert Murphy

The Dixie Chicks suck! There is no doubt about it. If they would just shut their mouths and stop trying to go out of their league and be political they would be OK. JUST SHUT UP DIXIE CHICKS!!!!!

  • shannon

there seems to be false understanding floating around this comment board. The chicks aren’t complaining about their fans not buying their cd. they aren’t upset that radio stations have banned them. They’ve made their bed, and their sleeping like babies. We all have our political views. And we all have the freedom to believe what we want, the same goes for celebrities. The Chicks are is a position to influence, and I say heck let them do their thing. the right expresses their views very freely within the country world, its nice to see the pot stirred. I’ve been a country fan for years, but have often felt insulted by the conversative viewpoint. Just as conservatives are offended by The Chicks, I’m offended by Tody Keith and all the other flag waving consverative artists. I love my country. I’m proud to be an American. At the same time, I’m embarrassed by President Bush, and am afraid of the direction we’re headed. We invaded facists, and dictorial goverments….we need an America to invade us. Our country is falling apart, right under our feet, our whole world is calapsing….something needs to be done. The Chicks might perhaps be a tool for our countries awakening. Nothing like turning the converstive world of country onto its belly.

  • Debby in TX

I say let the Chicks have their say. I think they have guts to speak up. I say good for them for standing up for what they believe. I am proud they are from Texas. I am a fan for life now.
