well i finally got around to watching recent best picture winner crash - i kept putting it off time & time again but this afternoon i told myself you have to watch it today and i did...i will say that i really expected it to be a lot better than i thought it would be but i was actually really disappointed in this film...can you say CONTRIVED? hello?!? it was so brimming full of coincidences & tie-ins that were beyond realistic (i have a better chance at winning the lottery!) and i thought every scene was just trying to cram in as much 'stereotypical' talk as possible especially in the beginning - i did enjoy some of the performances & the music was excellent but overall i thought it quite sappy and could have easily been a TV movie of the week - i know a lot of people enjoyed it and thought it all important but i just found it all so very contrived & while trying to be oh so precious and for all its 'drama' the film ended fairly happy - all those factors just completely distracted me - this is hardly 'best picture' material but we all know that awards are often given to actors or films that are not so deserving - it all comes down to those very dirty hollywood politics...anyways i just had to get that off my chest - i hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready to deal with the week ahead...popbytes over & out - xxoo!

You do not appreciate movies then. I thought Crash was amazing. Yes, it relies on a lot of coincoidences, but it's a movie. You have to take it for what it is....a wonderfully acted gut wrenching film. I was so happy that this beat out broke-boring-back mountain. You obviously didn't want to see it in the first place which is why you put it off, so your opinion is totally biased. I'm sure most people who saw this movie who wanted to will agree that it is amazing.

oh MK, i am on the same page with you buddy. I was so furious during the scene when the Persian guy shows up at the Latino guys house and practically kills his daughter. i stalked out of the room feeling that the whole thing was A) contrived B) emotionally manipulative. I honestly felt like the only reason i was supposed to feel compassion for these characters were for these respective ethnicities, NOT because of who they actually were as people.
Ridiculous.
That being said, Thandie Newton did a bang up job. Her scene with Terrence Howard in their bedroom was the only scene in this drivel-fest worth watching.

Thank you! Thank you!! I stand up and applaud your comments on Crash. I felt the exact same way. The movie was not as good as everyone made it. I felt manipulated and couldn't believe half of the stuff that went on in the film. It was very contrived...thank you so much for that. I feel so much better now. I posted a similar comment on IMDB and almost got branded a racist. My theory is, if you dont' want to be treated differently then don't keep pointing out the fact that you're different.
