well hello hello hello! it's very close to the end of this month! can you believe it was almost 90 degrees here in LA today?!? halloween & warm weather is so odd! twas a great month for popbytes - i had my largest number of unique visitors and visits this month! as long as my traffic goes up i am happy pop bird - it's a slow but steady climb so popbytes is here to stay! no worries!

so i wanted to leave you all this month with lil' kim's video for lighters up (mary j. blige makes an appearance) - i became so obsessed with this song - gosh she is so fierce - i love its chill ghetto style and her rhymes are quite dope (i wanna be from bed sty) - i must have listened to it 1000x + (that's what popbytes does - it's called 'wearing something out') - and then i finally found the video (it starts with shut up bitch and then rolls on into lighters up) so i just had to post it here - i wonder how that ms. jones (aka lil' kim) is doing in jail - i'm sure she is soaking up all the experience - oh that lil' kim - we so love you here on popbytes - oh that october and here we go into november! rock & blog on - much love to all as always! xxoo...

hey hey! happy halloween folks - gosh they sure don't make scary movies like rosemary's baby anymore - i still say the 70's was the best decade hands down for scary films (the exorcist, the sentinel, burnt offerings, tourist trap, phantasm, trilogy of terror, suspiria!) - not necessarily gory but just plain creepy - chilling to the bone and down right scary - so for me rosemary's baby is the best horror film ever (regardless of what you may think about director roman polanski) - i just love the innocence of young & oh so beautiful mia farrow - the story originally written by ira levin is pure genius - and any movie with scary old people (god bless ruth gordon and burgess meredith) is great in my books - and now with katie holmes running around with tom cruise's child - it does make you wonder...let's hope katie isn't drinking any 'special' scientology shakes or wearing a tannis root necklace - those would be sure tell-tale signs that something just ain't right! well i really hope you all have a safe and awesome spook-tacular halloween - and if you haven't seen rosemary's baby - it is a must see! popbytes out for now...xxoo

ANNA NICOLE DOES DOG FOOD!

gosh i love turning the clocks back one hour! fall back so beats spring ahead - and most of my clocks set themselves forward - so barely noticed until i got in the car this afternoon - and then i realized we had fallen back! woo hoo! so let's move on to a couple of pop items of note...

oh that anna nicole - she is always on the front lines of social protest! (or at least her boobs make it to the frontline first!) well this time she isn't asking us if we like her body and telling us to snort trimspa - but rather she is telling us to boycott IAMS dog food - ms. smith has teamed up with the animal cruelty organization PETA - generally i always support them being an animal lover but sometimes they do go a bit overboard...you can check out what they are claiming over on iamscruelty.com

so sadly i had to break the news to my dogs parker & fidel that their favorite food was coming under fire - they seemed to understand - but they do want to finish out their remaining supply (they so love the green bag mini-chunks!) - and then perhaps switch to another brand until all the hoopla settles down! it is a shame since i always thought IAMS to be the best dog food - recommended by vets everywhere - who even knows now? paws down on this one - :(

is there anything left sacred today? when the one thing you never have to worry about (like your dog's food) comes under question - it can rock your world (or in this case your dogs!) so i will remain on IAMS watch and keep you posted on how this all goes down...

oh this is a fun one kids! sarah silverman who is just an outrageously funny stand-up comedian (and linked romantically to jimmy kimmel) is releasing a movie very soon - based on her stand-up act - jesus is magic - what a great title - i hope to see it soon - popbytes so loves her twisted sense of humor (as is my own) - i will make sure to fill you all in - but check out the website in the meantime...

SARAH SILVERMAN - JESUS IS MAGIC
Silverman, who has been compared to the legendary Lenny Bruce, is known as one of the funniest and most provocative people in comedy. Despite the current political climate, in JESUS IS MAGIC she takes on such pitch-black topics as September 11th, unwanted body hair, and the Holocaust, and spins them into decidedly un-politically correct comedic gold. As she says in the film, "When God gives you AIDS, (and God does give you AIDS, by the way) make LemonAIDS."

so gosh that whole janet jackson secret daughter thing is so weird - check out the pic to the left (thanks to celebrity scum) - if it ain't janet's kid - it sure is a jackson - apparently 'renee' is daughter of janet and ex-hubby james debarge but lives (in secret?!?) with rebbie jackson (i hadn't even heard of a rebbie jackson until now!) - i can't wait to see how this one turns out - and no worries - this girl can sing too or at least that is what renee's little brother young debarge (who names their kid young?!?) is claiming - i smell cash, do you? this all too wacky! oh those jacksons - it's a laugh a minute with them!

oh i am out for now - at least tomorrow is halloween and i will be posting about my favorite scary movie of all time that actually seems very relevant today...so check back tomorrow! xxoo

oh lordy - this is so wrong and so weird - so remember that irish boy band westlife - well yeah they are still around after almost 7 years! - the four boys are releasing a new album this week in the UK (sorry no US release needed) called face to face (the first single is 'you raise me up' - there was no need to cover this song) - so i am looking at my sneak preview copy - and i notice that our poor diana ross got roped into doing a song with them (and is to be their second single release) - who knows the hell why?!? this is way too random - oh that diana...oh ms. ross!

gosh diana was the best - i still love listening to the supremes - but she was never really able to transition into older yet classy & kicking diva-dom - like let's say tina turner, or even cher for that matter - and now with this westlife duet - i say & know it's all downhill from here and has been for quite sometime (drunk driving in AZ?) but thanks for the memories ms. ross - we still do love you but i just had to post this - it's all too sad - anyways popbytes out for now! xxoo

hey all - wow what a week! i'm drained - i so need the weekend to re-energize - still reeling from seeing brokeback mountain last night - gosh it was so excellent - the more i think on it the more i like it - i'm hoping to snag a picture of me & jake....stay tuned on that front...anyways - i'm watching some re-runs of the comeback over on HBO - gosh i so miss our dear valerie cherish it pains me that we won't see more of her!

i am also thinking of my dear friend ms. christienne (aka cwbullgoddess) - she is such a cool gal - i just love her to pieces - she was a co-worker of mine over at my daily grind job (yes popbytes needs to make a living!) - and she always made the day all the more sunnier here in hollywood - so now she is moving on - getting married to her awesome fiance mr. chris (such a cool guy!) - and moving to good ol' tennessee - i am so happy for them both - they bought a whole ranch set-up just about 30 miles outside nashville - and i do intend to visit - BUT the good part is - i am going to be dog sitting for her before the big move - she has two adorable dogs - elphie and washi - i'm happy to spend some time with her dogs plus it insures i get to see her some more before she leaves los angeles - oh she is on to bigger & better things...
oh ms. christienne - you don't even know - i have so appreciated your warmth, humor & love - you have such a good soul and i have really appreciated all yr kind words & inspiration regarding popbytes and what i am striving to attain here - i am so going to miss you 'dorothy' - much love and good wishes for you and chris - i know you guys are gonna rock those plans of yours - and we will remain in touch - and dude i am so coming to nashville to check in about that hinkus of yours (very private joke) - i love you cwads!
popbytes out for now - i have included a very recent picture below of my two dogs - parker & fidel - gosh i love those dogs and wanted to share my babes with you all - here is to this spooky weekend! xxoo

'BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN' WAS EXCELLENT!

oh my gosh - wow - i just walked in the door from the screening - brokeback mountain is a fine example of great american cinema - and how movies should be made - wow - kudos to director ang lee for bringing this tender tale to life (based on a short story by annie proulx and adapted for the screen by the awesome larry mcmurtry) - i was stunned by the time it ended - and i did shed a few tears - it is haunting & beautiful - and at the center of it all - is a heartbreaking love story - gosh - being a gay male it was so exciting & refreshing to see a movie about two men in love - that isn't all gay and up in your face - i would not categorize this as 'queer' cinema - this is a mainstream film that i hope gets the large audience it deserves - the 20 year relationship between cowboys jack twist (played by gorgeous jake gyllenhaal) and ennis del mar (played by heath ledger who was actually really good!) unfolds in such a way that you really start to care for these characters - the boys grow on you and become quite likable characters - and mr. gyllenhaal was so good - i was blown away...although he didn't age as well as heath did over the years of the movie...

the whole film was so understated that it made it all the more powerful - there was no unnecessary dialogue - the cinematography was excellent - the scenery amazing - and the 'love' scenes were sweet and not all salicious or sassy - i just really dug everything about this movie - and michelle williams and anne hathaway (oh her princess diaries) were actually really good as the wives of these two men - i really loved seeing all the incarnations of hathaway's hair throughout the movie - especially those snazzy 70's styles - mr. lee sure knows how to handle himself in that decade - and randy quaid has a great bit part!

i really am very interested to see how it will fare at the box office plus how it will be marketed - for sure it will garner some awards (it already snagged best film honors over at the venice film festival) - i implore you all to check it out when it hits theaters on december 9th (i will remind you guys when it comes out!) - gosh i will be thinking about it all night - what a great film - really - anyways popbytes out for now - xxoo

PS my buddy matt at work kept teasing me that i was going to see 'saggy dude mountain' - gosh i found that so funny - that boy really cracks me up! rock on!

ok ok ok - i get it - i know some people aren't into broadway - see my previous post - so i came up with something else kinda hot & fun - remember that song you promised me - it was a big dance / club hit that seemed to have a life of its own - and now ms. in-grid our little italian dance queen is back with a new album VOILA'! (recorded in french & english versions - why french and not italian beats me...) - plus a hot new single mamma mia - of course it is in french - but who the hell cares - it's a shimmy down 'disco' track as i would say along with my pal CK - so give a listen below - and i hope this post makes up for any broadway boredom...i like to keep everyone happy...rock on - popbytes out for now...

» listen to in-grid's mamma mia (.mp3 4.9mb)

In-Grid was named after the famous film star, Ingrid Bergman. Her parents ran a cinema (and still do) and In-Grid grew up watching movies which she says were a major influence on her decision to become a singer. Films sparked her imagination and fuelled her ambition to communicate strong emotions to as many people as possible. She started acting, painting and singing, soon to discover that for her music was the most powerful form of expression.

She began singing locally in her native Northern Italy and soon got a reputation for her great stage presence and the energy and colour of her voice.

The internationally renowned record producers Larry Pignagnoli and Marco Soncini invited her to sing on a couple of ideas they were working on in the studio.

She laid down the vocals of Tu es Foutu in one go and the song came to life. As a famous DJ put it, this must be the sexiest voice to come out of the Italian dance scene in the last ten years.

oh my gosh hello hello hello! so i can really be into broadway (i know it's so stereotypical - but i don't care) sometimes especially once i start to talk and think about it! (plus it's is still the #1 thing i miss about NYC besides my friends & immediate family) - and lady sarah brightman is one of the best singers to ever grace the great white way - and she has done some very cool non-broadway stuff including opera, and dance music! (her album HAREM is way cool) she has one of those voices that just grabs you everytime - so she just released a collection of andrew lloyd webber tunes - the album is decent (her vocals are fine - but the orchestra is a bit questionable - see what you think - have a listen below) and she covers the amazing i don't know how to love him from my favorite broadway show of all time jesus christ superstar - i could listen to that all day (well maybe not all day - but i can tolerate a lot of 'everything's alright')

i do have many fave shows - but for some reason JC superstar just rocks it for me - i guess in a close second would be hair - and third would be sweeney todd - my fourth choice...just kidding - oh people i could go on all night...my 100th choice...no i won't bore you - but crap i do love evita and gosh how could i forget about my dear follies - sondheim is a god - ok someone stop me!!! (sunday in the park with george) - i had to slip that last one in - sorry! anyways tomorrow is thursday - hip hip hooray! we are closer to those 2 days of freedom again - sorry if i bored you tonight with all my broadway talk - but i got it out of my system for now...popbytes over & out - xxoo!

oh score for popbytes! i am thrilled to be seeing the film brokeback mountain sometime this week (and i may attend the press junket...wowzers!) - i literally cannot wait - there has been so much buzz on this film - and i am totally into getting an early peek - i really think it is going to be excellent - it doesn't hit theaters until december - so i for sure will write it up here on popbytes - if you don't know already - this is the ang lee directed film (love mr. lee - especially 'the ice storm'...) - that covers the life-long 'relationship' of two (hot!) cowboys - played by jake gyllenhaal and heath leadger - i just watched the preview over on brokebackmountainmovie.com- and wow! i can't wait - i can't say it enough! sorry i just had to let it out - i was bursting on this item - i so adore mr. jake...anyways it's still kinda cloudy & crappy here in los angeles - i am hoping tomorrow's hump day can bring some much needed sunshine back into my pop life - popbytes out for now - xxoo

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee comes an epic American love story, based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx and adapted for the screen by the team of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men – a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy – who meet in the summer of 1963, and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. Early one morning in Signal, Wyoming, Ennis del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) meet while lining up for employment with local rancher Joe Aguirre (Randy Quaid).

The world which Ennis and Jack have been born into is at once changing rapidly and yet scarcely evolving. Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland – obtaining steady work, marrying and raising a family – and yet hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy. At summer’s end, the two must come down from Brokeback and part ways. Remaining in Wyoming, Ennis weds his sweetheart Alma (Michelle Williams), with whom he will have two daughters as he ekes out a living. Jack, in Texas, catches the eye of a rodeo queen Lureen Newsome (Anne Hathaway). Their courtship and marriage result in a son, as well as jobs in her father’s business. Four years pass. One day, Alma brings Ennis a postcard from Jack, who is en route to visit Wyoming. Ennis waits expectantly for his friend, and when Jack at last arrives, in just one moment it is clear that the passage of time has only strengthened the men’s attachment. In the years that follow, Ennis and Jack struggle to keep their secret bond alive. They meet up several times annually. Even when they are apart, they face the eternal questions of fidelity, commitment and trust. Ultimately, the one constant in their lives is a force of nature – love.

wow - what a legend - at the ripe old age of 92 - rosa parks - the much loved & adored 'mother' of the civil rights movement has passed on to the other side - her civil disobedience act was played out on dec 1st 1955 (almost 50 years to the day!) - she refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white man in montgomery alabama - after her subsequent arrest she helped (along with martin luther king jr.) to start something much needed & long overdue in this country - i can't even believe what went on in this country fifty years ago - we may have come a long way but the journey is far from over - we so need equality & acceptance for all - god bless rosa parks for what she stood for - and she will stand forever as a very important american icon & legend - oh rosa we miss your strong spirit already...much love to you...xxoo

A SUNNY ARRESTED REUNION...PLEASE!

well hello! - i say damn that world series - the TV schedule has been messed for weeks - oh those playoffs - and then in the end you get two weak teams - everyone is kinda wishy-washy on the whole thing (if i had to pick i guess i go for the white sox?) but enough is enough already - i am ready to get back on track - especially with a few shows over on FOX...UPN has been kinda fucked too...

this is one show i have so been missing my beloved arrested development (everyone needs a 30 minute mini acid trip on monday nights - this show is wacky & hilarious - one of my favorites) - the loopy zany gang/family of misfits return nov 7th - thank heavens - it's so out there - i almost can't believe it is on network tv! i adore it!

also MIA has been reunion which is a fun little show i got into - it starts in 1986 and intends to cover 20 years (1 year = 1 episode) of the lives of a bunch of high school buddies (told in flashbacks from the present where 'someone' is dead...who died & who killed is the big mystery?!?) - 1986, 1987, & 1988 have already aired - but check the website - they will be re-airing those episodes - and then next week (nov 3rd) we all land back in 1989 - and someone is to get married - but who? i really like the plot of this show - lots of little mysteries abound - let's just see if FOX can make it thru 20 episodes...

and finally can i just tell you that the sun has not been shining here in los angeles - it's been like 3-4 days now - and i'm about to slit my wrists over it - and then you get these people who are like 'oh i kinda like days like this in los angeles' - and i just think that's bullshit - what a lame thing to say - so just shut-up people - this is why we live in LA - we need and thrive on the sun - it's so depressing without it (palm trees & grey skies do not mix well here) - so please do a a little sun dance for me! (i know my pal gillian will!) gosh see how cranky i am being :( anyways rock & blog on - popbytes out for now...xxoo

hey y'all - so i thought to try to bring back a column i had done a few times in the past - for the most part it was always fun to write - and was sorta just anything going on in the moment - i like just tossing myself out there - gosh i am so dreading monday - the weekend is always so darn quick! if you blink it's gone :(

scariest places on earth - ABC Family has been running marathons all day yesterday & today (on their 13 days of halloween good time programs!) - i love spooky shows like this (linda blair hosts - and zelda rubenstein lends her voice) - and seeing people all scared can be kinda exciting - watching this show is about as close as i would get to spending a night in any haunted castle - i like to be scared but in the comforts of my own home - i would for sure give myself a heart attack from fear alone! you might call me a nervous nelly - i do believe in ghosts but they say curiousity did kill the cat - i would be jetting in the other direction - towards the exit!

saturday night live kinda totally sucked last night - they had catherine zeta-jones (she did look great) do every accent imaginable - enough was enough - i did enjoy the return of tina fey after being on pregnancy leave - and funny lady maya rudolph had a little girl last week and named her pearl! congrats to maya - but we miss you already - come back soon! franz ferdinand's performance was a high point for the show last night - maybe next week will be better - lance armstrong will host - and his fiance sheryl crow will be the musical guest - and we all know i love ms. crow dearly...i just hope SNL picks up this season - when it's good it's good - but when it sucks - it really sucks :(

dodgeball - so over here in hollywood - i have digital cable from comcast - which i like - but i kept hearing about all this 'on demand' programming - and for some reason - i didn't think i had that feature - so i was tooling around with my remote (it is one of the most confusing ones i ever did see - and usually i am good with that stuff) and then boom - i landed into the land of 'on demand' - i was thrilled - i had a bunch of stuff i could watch from HBO - including movies and such - so i hadn't seen dodgeball yet - so i settled into that - and was a pure hoot - i loved it - ben stiller was great - and i love vince vaughn - so i was happy all around with my new anytime access to some good programming - woo hoo!

saw 2 - oh my gosh - this comes out on friday - and i can't wait - the first one was so great - edge of your seat - and scary as hell - i hope this one delivers like the first one - check out the website over at saw2.com - oh i love this time of year - spooky and scary abound!

so that's where i am for today - i have some fun stuff planned for this week - so keep it tuned here to popbytes - much love - i am so outtie - rock & bog on - mk aka popbytes...xxoo

so i said i like being random here on popbytes - and this is as random as something can get - well you might have (you must have unless your living under a pop rock) heard D.H.T on the radio - this belgian pop duo have a cover of roxette's listen to your heart (1989) that has been playing on the airwaves in both slow & fast (dance) versions - both are fairly decent and kinda addictive - so when i got my mits on their debut album listen to your heart - i noticed they have a track #3 listed as at seventeen - i said it just can't be - but alas it is indeed a cover of one of my favorite songs of all time - written & originally performed by legendary folky singer ms. janis ian on her awesome 1975 album - and one of my favorites - between the lines - i don't think any redo could ever top janis ian's classic recording - but it was so great to hear someone else do this oh so lovely & kinda sad song...so please give a listen below - and do check out D.H.T.'s debut album listen to your heart - pure pop fluff but we all need that now & again...popbytes out for now - xxoo

Belgian dance-pop duo D.H.T. featuring Edmée (vocalist Edmée Daenen, 20, and MC/DJ/writer/producer Flor 'Da Rick' Theeuwes, 28) have done in recent weeks what no other Belgian act in the last thirteen years has done: reach the Top 5 in pop radio play in the United States. D.H.T.'s single, 'Listen to Your Heart,' is a powerful double-sided cover of the late-1989 No.1 single originally written and performed by the Swedish duo Roxette.

D.H.T.'s two new versions, included on the Robbins CD single along with other extended dance mixes, zoomed to top 5 in airplay among radio stations in the mainstream pop format. In addition, an 'unplugged' piano-led ballad version of 'Listen to Your Heart' has also spread the song's radio groundswell.

The duo have brought a highly original approach to their debut album, LISTEN TO YOUR HEART, released July 19, 2005 on Robbins: it's a clearly mainstream creation -- but hardly watered-down, built as it is from entirely uncompromised elements of global dance styles, with a balanced slate of often unexpected cover tunes, and an equally surprising and solidly-written set of heartfelt original pop ballads and dance tunes.

well hello hello hello - it's friday! i just got back from the grocery store - i am settling into some nice red wine (australian shiraz) - and supernanny over on ABC plus i am looking forward to the new madonna documentary i'm gonna tell you a secret which premieres tonight over on MTV...

so last weekend i screened the re-make of scary flick house of wax - the dvd lands in stores on the 25th - overall it was just ok - for one thing it was a bit long - and took a bit of time to get started - but once it did the movie was able to hold my attention - i enjoyed the whole set-up of this town made up of wax & gazing at super hottie star (& recently divorced...) chad michael murray made the trip to waxville all the worthwhile plus seeing paris hilton get whacked in the film was great - if you like scary movies - it's worth at least a home viewing...

i always found wax museums to be a bit creepy - but the creepiest one by far is located in historic deadwood in the black hills of south dakota (where wild bill hickok and calamity jane are buried) - i went when i was a kid - and let me tell you how eerie it was - first off - it was just my folks, my younger brother and i - this homely girl led us down into the basement(!?!) - and it was dark, damp & dank and smelled super musty (oh that mold!) - 'ms. homely' had a tape recorder with her - and as we walked by each scene o' wax - she would play some commentary that was supposed to be the wax people talking and telling the history of deadwood - half of the costumes were fussed with - wigs were misplaced a bit - and the dust was quite prevalent - i just remember my mom giving me looks like she wanted to make a run for it before they made us into half-assed wax figures - trust me it was a weird scene! so if you ever happen to be in deadwood (info is below) - stop by (if you dare) and tell 'em popbytes sent ya - it was no madame tussauds that's for sure...

anyways popbytes out for now - yeah i will be around this weekend and try to dig up something good - i like to be random & keep it fresh to make sure you all come back for more of helpings of popbytes - much love to all as always - xxoo

'NORTH COUNTRY' IS EXCELLENT!

hey y'all - so last night i made it to an 'advanced' screening of north country which hits a theater by you this friday - starring lovely charlize theron - along with woody harrelson, frances mcdormand, sissy spacek, and richard jenkins (the dad from our dearly departed six feet under) - the film is based on a true story - all about the first class action sexual harassment lawsuit that took place during 1989 up in the heavily male dominated world of the iron mines located up in the 'north country' of minnesota

theron plays josey aimes - and gosh was she excellent - i really admire her choice of roles - and she shines as a single mother of two kids trying to keep it all together - who dares to go against the grain and stand-up for what is right and fair (popbytes wouldn't last but all of two minutes in those mines!) - the crap the male miners put the ladies through is disgusting - i couldn't believe some of the shit they pulled - but josey sure shows them in the end - a landmark decision that helped to enact much needed sexual harrasment policies in all sectors of US business

mcdormand was also excellent and i think i smell oscar for her - and jenkins as josey's father - he was amazing - his character comes full circle in the movie and he shines at doing it - in addition to an already stellar cast we get woody harrelson who has been absent for a bit of time and he returns with an excellent role and reminded me of what a good actor he really is - even though the film mainly focuses on josey's plight - there are a bunch of great subplots included in the movie - it was very tight overall - and i highly recommend it - kudos to director niki caro (whalerider) - she so captured something with this film - it's gorgeous and quite powerful - and seeing acting veteran sissy spacek up on the silver screen is reason enough to see this film - popbytes over & out...for now...xxoo

MIX 96 will then come to your office to shave the head of the head of your operation! Our MIX 96 Shave to Save team will be "heading" out accompanied by a trained professional from La Coupe Downtown to do the deed. We'll also bring a treat from Mike's Restaurants for the staff!

hey hey hey - gosh i was so bummed today - first off it has been raining - see pics below - you never see hollywood blvd like that - and today was to be the grand opening for the new virgin megastore here in hollywood - sir 'crazy but cool' richard branson was to appear to cut a ribbon - along with a rooftop performance from INXS with their new lead singer cutie JD power (i love him!) - but alas it all got washed away - they said it was cancelled not postponed - so i doubt it will happen but i will stay on top of that whole situation - damn that rain!!! it rarely rains in LA so to have it rain on this day was really saddening especially on a monday :( everyone at work was in a mad scramble for umbrellas (poor audra almost went outside with a plastic bag - i had to stop her for the fashion factor) and made hollywood blvd as slippery as all hell...that sidewalk o' stars was so not built with rain in mind...

so anyways i just caught the madonna appearance on TRL that took place earlier today - lame lame lame - it was just so dumb - i felt like i was in grade school - they showed like 30 seconds of the new video for hung up - and had this stupid 'dance for madonna contest' - i think madge wanted to leave & regrets hopping in bed with MTV (except i'm sure the $$$ is good) - and that guy who is now hosting TRL - can they get someone with some zest??? he is such a fucking drip - i'm sure ms. madge was rolling her eyes back into her head - but i did spot blogmate trent from pinkisthenewblog.com so that was kinda fun to see him hanging out in the audience - his blog is super fun - a daily read for sure - of course he is destined to be a star! so rock on!

oh what a day - good times when it rains in los angeles - this was why i left NYC (not really but it does sound good) - popbytes out for now...xxoo...

happy saturday people - so yeah i decided today after a little internal pop conflict that i am gonna mention ashlee simpson's sophomore musical effort i am me which hits stores this coming tuesday - so much has happened to ms. simpson since her debut album autobiography - first she was caught lip syncing on SNL (and redemeed herself just last week with an actual 'live' performance - fairly decent) - older sister jessica simpson and hubby nick lachey are on the road to splitsville - and we all think daddy joe simpson is a bit of a pervert plus i think most of us found ashlee to be a bit irritating - i was pretty over her - so when i got my advanced copy of i am me - i laughed - i was like oh no here we go - but once i put it on - gosh i can't believe i will admit this on here - i actually kinda enjoyed it - yikes - shame on me - i mean it is what it is - simple pure pop fluff yet quite fun - a few tracks stand out and have become a little infectious over here at popbytes - especially track #4 - L.O.V.E. (listen below) - a short little song that i keep playing over & over again - i wouldn't say run out and buy this album - but i have a feeling it will produce a bevy of radio hit singles - so i think ashlee will end up doing well with this release - ok i'm outtie - popbytes will be back tomorrow to see what sunday brings...xxoo...

OH THAT ÜBER SEXUALITY

hey kids - someone at JWT sent me this (all tied in someway to futureofmen.com) and just thought it an interesting thing to post - not sure how i feel about it all - i think i like the metrosexual much better - i say screw the übers - what a dumb idea - i don't think some of the cool guys below would want to be included in conjunction with this new term - and asshole arnold schwarzenegger is on their list and i think here in CA we should recall him as governator - what a crock he has been - BUT i do like his wife maria shriver for some reason - she needs to take charge - maybe it's the whole kennedy connection - you gotta love those cursed kennedys - oh those übers - read the crap below - it almost doesn't even make sense - jeez louise - rock on - popbytes out for now!

--------------------

JWT (formerly J. Walter Thompson), the world's oldest advertising agency and the largest agency in America, has named the top ten men it defines as übersexuals. These are men who embrace the positive aspects of their masculinity or 'M-ness' (e.g., confidence, leadership, passion, compassion) without giving in to the stereotypes that give guys a bad name (e.g., disrespect toward women, emotional emptiness, complete ignorance of anything cultural outside of sports, beer, burgers, and athletic shoes).

Metrosexual or übersexual? How to Spot the Difference

- Both are passionate, but the über is passionate about causes and principles, while the metro is mostly passionate about himself

- The über spends more time grooming his mind than his hair

- Both treat and respect women as equals, but the über considers other men, not women, his best friends

- The über is more sensual and not at all self-conscious; he doesn't need other people to tell him he's sexy - nor does he plan his errands around which shop windows offer the best reflection

- The metro gets design tips from the Fab Five; the über gets them from his travels and interest in art and culture

- The über knows the difference between right and wrong and will make the right decision regardless of what others around him may think; the metro knows the difference between toner and exfoliant - and worries that he's using yesterday's brand

JWT's Top Ten Here, in reverse order, are the top ten men JWT says embody everything über:

10. Jon Stewart: He is outspoken without regard to what other people think (as evidenced by his skewering his hosts during this year's Advertising Week). He is supportive of women and pokes fun at himself in a self-deprecating way.

9. Guy Ritchie: His masculinity is unquestioned even though he's married to one of the world's top music icons. (In fact, gravitating toward strong women tends to be an über trait.)

8. Pierce Brosnan: His James Bond strength was never compromised when we watched him publicly mourn his first wife (and raise her children). He has Remington Steele's classic elegance and savoir faire.

7. Ewan McGregor: A handsome, fashionable family man, McGregor is versatile enough to go from riding his Harley Davidson around the world to walking the red carpet. He is comfortable in his own sexuality.

6. Barack Obama: At the DNC, he managed to marry sentimental love of family with a new face of patriotism. And he looks sharp in a suit.

5. Arnold Schwarzenegger: He journeyed from body builder to mega movie star to politician, all the while keeping his shoes buffed and hair in place. He has succeeded in every challenge he's faced, and he has a Kennedy for a wife.

4. Donald Trump: Love him or hate him, Trump is a man who is certain about what he wants and sets out to get it, no holds barred. Women find his power almost as much of a turn-on as his money.

3. Bill Clinton: A born charmer with Southern roots who is not afraid to cry. He is a supremely confident, decisive leader. And he has supremely sexy hands.

2. George Clooney: He appreciates the finer things in life (including his villa on the shores of Lake Como), and he is strongly bonded with and loyal to a cadre of male friends. His timeless image has allowed him to rise from B-sitcoms to box-office hits, some of which he's directed and/or produced.

1. Bono: He's global, socially aware, confident, and compassionate, and he commands a huge base of followers who are fans of his music and his humanitarianism. Is it any wonder rumors are swirling about a Nobel Peace Prize?

happy monday and columbus day (oh that 1492) - i didn't have the day off which is just shameful and a cryin' shame - when there is no mail - there should be no work - i like that rule! but in the end it just sucks to be part of the whole 9-5 grind - popbytes does keep me sane - so thank heavens for that!

anyways you all know i am only slightly obsessed with hollywood - so when i got a preview copy of the HBO series unscripted that is to hit stores next week - i was thrilled - it was a small comedy series (created by george clooney and steven soderbergh) - 10 episodes in all - well worth your viewing time - it was one of these kinda infused reality & fiction shows - that took a look at three actors trying to make or break it here in hollywood - i loved this series when it was airing - very clever and quite funny - and really made me thank my lucky stars that i am NOT an aspiring actor here in hollywood - i prefer the pop sidelines - such an interesting business - and i think this show for captured some ups and downs of living 'the actor life' here in LA - and for some reason i just adore krista allen (who used to date mr. cutie clooney) - she just shines in this series along with acting vet frank langella who plays an acting coach - if you haven't seen this series - i highly urge you to check it out...popbytes out for now - just be happy we made it through monday! xxoo

There are no red carpets or premiere parties--just a string of hopeless auditions and humiliating, low paying jobs. This is the real life story of struggling Los Angeles actors that is hilariously captured in HBO Video’s October 2005 DVD release Unscripted: The Complete First Season. Executive produced by George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh, the series blends improvisation and real life taking a dryly humorous insider’s look at the all-too-earnest, frequently raucous, often disillusioning lives of several young actors trying to make a living - and make it big - in Hollywood.

The series stars actors Krista Allen, Bryan Greenberg and Jennifer Hall playing themselves and Frank Langella as their tough, no-nonsense acting teacher Goddard Fulton. As they navigate the ins and outs of Tinsel Town, crossing paths with real-life actors, producers, directors and agents, they provide a fly-on-the-wall glimpse at how the process of learning how to act often takes a backseat to the less-subtle skills involved in selling yourself in a cutthroat and highly competitive business.

Some albums, as Van Morrison once said, demand to be made. Throw Down Your Arms is the record that Sinead has been building towards for fifteen years, and perhaps the finest work of career. It is the human voice used as an instrument of spiritual healing. Irish philosopher Mark Patrick Hederman wrote: ‘Singing is a way of proclaiming a better world, a refusal to give in to the grimness of the past’. It is Sinead’s hope that people find comfort and inspiration in these songs, as she does, and that, in making this record, she has gone some small way toward rescuing God from religion.

There never has been - nor shall there ever likely be - another country-music powerhouse quite like Dolly Parton. - L.A. Weekly

A year in the making, this album of era-defining songs from the 1960s and 1970s is an astonishing collection of indispensable classics, performed in Dolly Parton's signature style with a top-notch list of friends.

Parton, who produced the album, invited several of the artists who wrote or made these songs famous to sing with her. Renowned musicians Roger McGuinn (of the Byrds), Kris Kristofferson, Judy Collins, and Tommy James make appearances on Those Were the Days. She also asked recent chart-topping artists Norah Jones, Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Lee Ann Womack, Rhonda Vincent, Joe Nichols, and Alison Krauss to join her in the studio.

The Country Music Hall of Famer, Grammy winner, and Oscar nominee said, "I am really very proud of this album. I love all of these songs and all of the artists who performed, it just felt special from the moment the concept came to my mind. I knew I had to produce it myself in order to get all of my ideas across exactly as I wanted them to be presented. I really hope people enjoy it. I know I enjoyed making it." Recorded in Nashville, Those Were the Days retains the bluegrass-inspired sound that earned her two Grammys and a new generation of fans for her previous four albums on Sugar Hill Records. The album includes a group sing featuring a menagerie of Grand Ole Opry legends. Capping off the album is Parton's unique version of "Imagine."

complete silence during birth - even the mother - no screaming or talking
no drugs of any type to help ease the 'pain'
the baby must not be spoken to for up to seven days!

ok to each his own really - but doesn't this sound off? i mean i wouldn't blast loud music in a newborn's ear - but no talking? apparently they believe the baby is so traumatized when it makes its big transition that they don't want to add to the drama of being born - this is just wacky shit people - maybe i'm crazy - but doesn't this sound out of whack? shit - i would be screaming my head off if i were to give birth - and i would require a ton of las drugas...popbytes out for now - and some 'fun' quotes below about this whole 'silent birth'

SCIENTOLOGISTS believe pain and negative experiences imprint themselves on the mind as "engrams" and affect subsequent behavior. The silent birthing technique is supposed to prevent "engrams" being formed on the child's mind.
Maintain silence in the presence of birth to save both the sanity of the mother and the child and safeguard the home to which they will go. And the maintaining of silence does not mean a volley of "Sh's," for those make stammerers. L. Ron Hubbard, "Dianetics", Chapter X, "Preventive Dianetics", page 193

Next, the delivery itself should carry as little anaesthetic as possible, be as calm and no-talk as possible and the baby should not be bathed or chilled but should be wrapped somewhat tightly in a warm blanket, very soft, and then left alone for a day or so. HCO [Hubbard Communications Office] Bulletin of 20 December 1958, "Processing a new mother" by L. Ron Hubbard.

hey kids! after all the zaniness yesterday - today feels boring - it just feels depressing today - i'm like what to post on? so i just thought to toss some pop rants out there for now...sorry if i am a bit cranky! (or as lady lora might call me - cranky crankerson)

the whole tomkitty situation (thanks to my friends at celebrity-babies.com for the new nickname!)
everyone is thoroughly freaked out - i was just thinking the other day - we hadn't heard from tom & 'kate' in a while - it was like they had their movies out (war of worlds, and batman begins) - and then the couple doth vanished - but of course they couldn't stay away too long - it would ruin 'some sick master plan' - and now boom - here they are and now she is pregnant - by him or by injection - we may never know - i wonder if they will now do a quickie wedding or wait until tomkitty is born?

oh that lindsay lohan
that accident of hers was just so overblown - it was like insane - you would have thought it was the second coming of christ in beverly hills - i just think she is just a dumb bitch - but i will say that guy shouldn't have made an illegal u-turn - i know that street well - and it's oh so tight to do a u-turn in a van - in the end i'm sure he will make out nicely from this whole thing - he said he was fine but 'his neck was sore' - that's the first thing i would say too - but really people she isn't that great - i'm so sick of her - maybe next time she will drive off a cliff...i don't actually wish any ill harm - but she just bores me...she still has disney written all over her - will be very interesting to see in the coming years if she floats or sinks

the ad conceptor
thanks to mr. frank over at !! omg blog !! - i had the best time at work with this nifty little site called the ad conceptor - it's really funny - and addicting - i tried almost every combination - i swear once you see one ad concepted of your choice - you will do a few more - i had the whole gang at the office into it - so do check that out...

that darned bird flu
ok so i keep hearing about some big crazy ass flu that could strike and kill MILLIONS of people - so i am trying not to read or hear too much about it because it is so freaking me out! i can get easily panicked - so for now - i'm just not gonna think about it - will someone tell me when to worry please? one less stress for me - and now i just found a blog all about the bird flu! oh the good times keep on rolling (or shall i saw flying?) yikes! i'm gonna sleep with the blanket over my head - scary!

ok i'm outtie for now - will try to muster up something later! something fun and not so serious...xxoo
TOM CRUISE / KATIE HOLMES - EXPECTING!

crap! what a wild wild wednesday this is - first we think jessica simpson and nick lachey are over - and now they are denying it - what gives? and now this - this is so scary! tom cruise and katie holmes are multiplying - katie is preggers! - it was reported in PEOPLE today! i guess they are liking to switch it up a bit instead of some clandestine surprise wedding - they went straight to multiplication...oh this is scary!

"Tom and Katie are very excited, and the entire family is very excited," Lee Anne Devette, Cruise's spokeswoman, told People.

gosh i wonder what nicole kidman thinks of all this - and now people will start to wonder if she was the one who couldn't get pregnant - so i guess now tom will make a proper lady (scientologist) out of katie - or shall we just call her kate as he prefers? ok no more big news today - let's save a little for the end of the week - popbytes out for now! xxoo

after months & months (and months) of rumors - it is official! jessica simpson and nick lachey are split up! no surprise here - jessica had been seen without her wedding ring a few times as of late and has been flying solo & carefree to events (like sis ashlee's 21st birthday) - US Magazine broke the story this morning...sad (not really) but true - and we all know who will come out on top - jessica of course - so nick kiss any career you may have had goodbye - gosh this all feels so 'sonny & cher' let's just hope that cutie nick doesn't end up skiing into a tree - popbytes out for now!

After enduring a year of rumors that their marriage was in trouble, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have really split. The bitter back story behind their final decision to separate.

oh that lindsay lohan - one of the best bloggers around perez hilton just sent me this latest scoop that he thinks is beyond surreal and i agree - gosh what is that lindsay doing? maybe she needs a DMV test - she is a mess - at least she had the accident on roberston here in LA - kinda a nice posh place to have an accident - and i bet the beverly hills cops were all up in it - and if you happen to be on roberston be sure to grab a bite at newsroom cafe - excellent food - and thanks to perez for the heads up!
POPBYTES INTERVIEWED BY NATHAN

oh i always love letting out little tidbits out about me - and one of my new cool blog friends nathan over at nathan exposed has this nifty little interview game where he asks me five questions and then i offer to interview any other blogger that wants to participate (details below) - so let's get on with this...

1 - How did you get started with your idea for the popbytes website?
so really it was just on a whim (and a little wine) - and wanted a nice piece for my design portfolio (to help get a full-time job) - and i was always 'talking' about this stuff anyways so why not 'log' it - and now it's been over 2 years - and really i had no clue it would ever be like it is today (and still growing!) - a lot of work to keep it up (gosh i get such performance anxiety sometimes) - but popbytes is well worth it - i love blogging! people that know me probably get sick of me talking about my blog - but really it's a one-man show - and a huge labor of love! so keep coming back and enjoy! more new stuff including some slight re-designing is in the works! i got plans people!

2 - What is the strangest celebrity encounter you’ve ever had?
well i guess that would have to be björk back in NYC - i was walking down west broadway in soho - and it was a weekday so less crowded - and raining a bit - walking with my pal CK - i spotted björk just strolling down the street - i passed her and then realized this was a big chance - so i ran back - pardoned myself - and just told her 'thank you - i love your music' and she was so gorgeous and gracious - she is such an interesting lady - so for me - it was a big coup to be face to face with her - and just tell her what i honestly felt! ok maybe not the strangest encounter - but maybe one with the strangest celebrity...

3 - If you could be a famous diva for a day, who would you be?
hands down - i would love to be courtney love when she was bit less messy - her whole hollywood glam stage would be just fine - i so love and appreciate the whole rock & roll spirit - and naysayers may say ms. love is hardly rock & roll - but to me she epitomizes that fuck you 'rock with your tits and cock out' spirit that i just love - the girl just doesn't give a fuck...and she has made some great music - i would just love to rock out one time on stage - even thought i can't sing for shit - popbytes is tone deaf!

4 - What is the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?
i think i must talk about the worst halloween costume i ever wore - poison ivy - don't ask me why i did this - but i did - it was crazy - and so uncomfortable - and the party theme was '80's metal rock' - i figured no one would do that - but alas i was wrong - everyone went metal and there i be in a green body suit - red wig - and black high heels which i left on the streets of NYC that night - those were some fun times back with my gals steph and gillian (and ms. marti was there too!) - a strong second worst costume were these grim reaper purple outfits that really in the end looked like grimace - me and 3 other friends wore - trust you me those costumes were abandoned that night too...

5 - Tell us something juicey nobody knows about you.
hmmmm - i'm not a registered democrat - i prefer to be independent especially in the shit world of politics - and i have a very unusual piercing - on the nape of my neck! i have had it over 6 years now - and it does often garner lots of looks and attention - my mom sure loves it! (joking) - ok that's not too juicey but enough for now...

gosh that was refreshing and fun for me to write - so if you want to play along - follow the guidelines below - popbytes out for now - and hugs & kisses to mr. nathan for interviewing me! xxoo

Remember, these are the guidelines:
1 - If you want to participate, leave a comment below saying, “interview me”.
2 - I will respond by asking you five questions - each person’s will be different.
3 - You will update your journal/blog with the answers to the questions.
4 - You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
5 - When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

PS had to share this recent pictures of one of my dogs - mr. parker - below - i figured with the interview - would love to share a pic as well! parker is an affenpinscher - and super cool :)

oh today is the day people - the best album of the year comes out in stores - it sure is one extraordinary machine - it's been six long years since fiona apple's last brilliant commercial release (when the pawn...) - and fans have been on edge ever since - this past year we were all lucky enough to get a copy of the bootleg version of the album that was 'accidently' leaked - i think hardly an accident - a very smart move by someone - she never would have gotten the buzz she has stirred up with this 'official' commercial release (and re-worked from the bootleg version) - i am so glad this album is being released as it really is quite excellent - i have had oh so many listens over the past few months - i love it (especially the bootleg version) - that fiona sure made us wait it out - but this was well worth the wait - hardcore fiona fans already know & love it - plus i think she will pick up some new fans as well - raw talent turned into crazy brilliant music - you go fiona - this is one album to be heard & applauded - and i do smell grammy and other accolades - what's the girl to do for her fourth album? i can't wait to find out - and fiona will be touring with this album too - can't wait to see her again live! now that is an experience...popbytes out for now!

hey everyone - so i just returned from the legendary and still looks great connie stevens house - and i had a blast - it was a benefit for GLASS - and it was a beautiful sunday afternoon - the wine was great - lots of tasty treats - and a few cute guys - a silent and live auction were a major portion of the day - and it was all for a great cause - and i met some great people including cuties greg & eddie, as well as ms. gretchen (who is making the coolest drink mixer ever over at modmixmartinis.com) - and as i was leaving - i just had to talk to joely fisher who was co-hosting the event with mom connie (pictured below) - she was so nice - i made sure to give her a popbytes card - and i asked 'will we see you on 'desperate housewives' tonight?' - she said 'not tonight but next week' - she was so nice - and even said my hair was cool! and joely is also six months pregnant with a little girl - so i wished her luck on that as well - so all in all it was a great event for GLASS - and i'm thrilled popbytes was thought to be included in the mix - it's only up up up from here! rock on - popbytes out for now! xxoo

POPBYTES LOVES 'COLD CASE'

well hello hello hello! so i wanted to mention it's not just all about 'housewives' tonight on TV - cold case is a show that i have totally fallen for over on CBS - everytime i watch it i'm like 'i love this show!' - it's about old crime cases that were never solved and then something happens in present day to shed some new light on the past crime - the show is so well done - especially how they use flashbacks (characters are often played by two actors - the 'past' version and the 'present' version) and the music always kicks ass - and totally fits into the era of each 'cold case' they tackle - and kathryn morris who plays main detective lilly rush - is just awesome! and i'm not one really for crime/detective type shows - but this one is tops - so check it out tonight (it's an early one too at 8pm) - i think you will soon be hooked as i am - i need to start giving shows a popbytes 'seal of approval' - popbytes out for now...xxoo

PS however i am still pissed that CBS didn't bring back judging amy for another season - i miss tyne daly and amy brenneman already! that was a good show :(

COLD CASE is a drama about Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris), the lone female detective in the Philadelphia homicide squad who finds her niche when she's assigned to "cold cases"--crimes that have never been solved. Previously, she used her instinctive understanding of the criminal mind on current murders. Now, she's interrogating witnesses whose lives and circumstances have since changed, making use of today's new science and finding fresh clues to solve cases that were previously unsolvable, all of which appeals to this smart, driven detective. She's also prepared for the consequences: that her work will open up old wounds and may lead suspects to commit new crimes. When she hits a dead end, Rush seeks advice from her respected mentor, Lt. John Stillman (John Finn). Also on the team are Det. Scotty Valens (Danny Pino), Rush's confident and strong-willed partner; Det. Will Jeffries (Thom Barry), who's been around long enough to serve as Lilly's link to the past; and Det. Nick Vera (Jeremy Ratchford), a tough cop who's considered the go-to guy for getting a confession. Rush sees her assignment as a turning point in her career when she decides to make it her business to make sure that no victim is ever forgotten.

happy october y'all! i thought i would start the month off with a spotlight on the latest awesome musical delight from ms. (soon to be mrs.) sheryl crow - anyone who knows me can verify that i seriously ADORE sheryl crow and have for years - her latest album wildflower hit stores this past tuesday - and i for sure think it fits right in with her other great albums (i think her 2nd self-titled album and 'globe sessions' are both tops) - it's a bit softer & more introspective than previous albums - but that voice will get you everytime - and she does rock out on a few songs - i have seen her a number of times in concert (one time 3 nights in a row!) - and she really is the real deal & true musician - i kinda mocked her very first single 'all i wanna do' but now it's one of my favorite songs plus it's so very LA - all in all - sheryl has been with me at some of the best and worst times of my life - she is still here and just as awesome - you keep on rocking girl (and congrats again on your engagement to cutie lance armstrong) - popbytes loves you! - check out her website for more of sheryl and i highly recommend getting a listen to wildflower...popbytes out for now - xxoo
