jon - poor megan and heidi! and thanks to jon!
'last week: screaming, stupidity, “gosh darn,” and the elimination of Ryan and Chuck.
Debbie and Bianca depart first from Cusco, Peru. They depart at 10:54 PM and receive $480 for this leg of the race. The clue says to travel by bus to the city of Arequipa, Peru, where they will have to find a “shoe shine union.” The last team to depart is Ron and Kelly, who leave at 12:58 AM.
In the interviews, Brian and Greg explain that they want to build relationships. The hail an extra cab for Lynn and Alex and then they’re all buddy-buddy and get drunk at frat parties together. Later on the bus, they form a relationship with Megan and Heidi.
At the bus station, everyone is looking around for the faster bus. There are two busses in total. One leaves later and arrives earlier than the other does. And vice versa. Rob and Amber bribed a security guard to keep the quicker bus ride a secret, but all the teams found out anyway and they all got on the faster bus.
There’s some bus riding and scenery loving and the teams arrive. There, they find a Roadblock whose instructions ask “Who loves shoes?” Lynn and Alex both love shoes! As do Ray, Joyce, Susan, Brian, Ron, Gretchen, Amber, Megan, and Debbie. Lynn does the task. The task is to work in the shoe shine business for about ten minutes and shine people’s shoes. You need to shine five pairs or else you…well, won’t get the clue.
Once teams are done, they automatically get tickets on one of two flights to Santiago, Chile! Woooo! Talk about an easy task. Shine a couple of shoes and AUTOMATICALLY get tickets. Maybe the producers though this year’s teams would be either really stupid or really lazy. So far, only the laziness is missing (well, on Rob’s part).
In Santiago, teams have to find the statue of the Virgin Mary and ride up her funicular. Hee. The Virgin Mary has a funicular all to herself. In their cab, either Lynn or Alex (I cannot tell them apart) comments that they are “good at pulling up the rear.” I don’t know why, but to me, that is funny.
The clue at the statue is today’s Detour. Teams have a choice between shop and schlep. In shop, teams have to find a cook, get a list of ingredients, and travel to the local market to purchase the ingredients with their money. In schlep, teams will have to transport 180 books from a bookstore to a library eight blocks away. The teams that “book it” (as I think it should be called) are Rob and Amber; Ron and Kelly; Ray and Deana; Debbie and Bianca; and Brian and Greg. The other teams shop around.
Nothing terribly exciting happens and must to my dislike, none of the fish (who were ingredients in the chef’s recipe) suddenly awake from the dead, despite being skinned and almost blind, and start biting off people’s fingers or stealing their money. I have always wanted to see a greedy fish.
After the teams have detoured, they travel to the pit stop—The Cerro Santa Lucia.
Rob and Amber arrive first and win a trip somewhere from someone. I don’t really care. Ron and Kelly arrive next, followed by Ray and Deana, Uchenna and Joyce, Lynn and Alex, Debbie and Bianca, Meredith and Gretchen, Susan and Patrick, and...
It’s another close finish. These close finishes are actually quite exciting. They seem really stressful, too. I almost broke out in 180 pimples (har har detour joke). Anyway. Brian and Greg and Megan and Heidi basically have a foot race to the pit stop and Brian and Greg ultimately prevail. Megan and Heidi get eliminated which makes Brian and Greg very sad because during the past couple of hours or so, they became great friends.
Good episode! There was lots of yelling and I think Gretchen went crazy. She kept on yelling to whoever would listen. In the market she kept on yelling out an ingredient to which all the marketers would respond and to which little dogs would run around in front of the camera. Also, on the way to the pit stop, she felt it was necessary to say that she doesn't 'see anybody,' really loud. Like she’s talking to a senior or something. (Hehe.) She tells Meredith to fix her hair before checking in with Phil and Meredith does nothing. And that’s it!
Whoo! Let’s keep this up for next week and let’s cross out fingers and hope Lynn and Alex keep pulling up the rear.'
