Angelina Jolie bought Brad Pitt a heart-shaped island?

It must be really nice when you have an extra $12.2 million dollar just sitting around to purchase your partner an island! That’s exactly what Angelina Jolie is rumored to have done for Brad Pitt‘s upcoming 50th birthday (coming up on December 18th). It’s an 11 acre totally private heart-shaped island (complete with a cottage designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright) called Petra Island and is a mere fifteen minutes away from New York City … via helicopter.

Located just 50 miles north of New York City (15 minutes by helicopter) and featuring two houses designed by famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Petra Island truly must be seen to be believed.

The island itself is 11 acres in size and is situated on New York’s very private Lake Mahopac. Petra Island has its own helicopter landing pad, and is of course accessible from the mainland by boat.

Two dwellings sit on the island – a 1,200-square-foot cottage, and a 5,000-square-foot main residence which is nothing short of an architectural masterpiece.

The cottage was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1950. The main residence was built in 2008 from one of Wright’s final plans, and is considered by some to be one of the most spectacular designs of his career. Boasting 1,500 square feet of skylights and vast expanses of stone, cement, and mahogany, the main residence is truly a triumph of modern architecture. SOURCE
